1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
So i put an 89 stamped-arm k-frame in my 1990 dynasty ive been putting together lately (mostly because it already had a fast ratio rack and a 1 1/4" swaybar bolted to it).
I had noticed a while back that the cast arms that were on the dynasty were different from the 91-up cast arms im used to. It wasnt until after i dropped the k-frame that i noticed that these cast arms used the smaller sized bushings front and back, like the stamped arms do.
BUT!!! Johnny Spiva says no existing poly bushings for stamped or cast arms fit them, so they are really a useless unicorn and just a curiosity!
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
You do have to run the matching K frame for the arms though right? I thought I read that they won't bolt up to the "regular" arm cars.
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
aren't the big Cbodies wider??
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
Umm, the stamped arms don't use the same size bushings front and rear. I just did mine.
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
Whoops, guess what i should have said is they appear to use the same front and rear bushings as the stamped arms do!
Cordes, i thought somone said the k-frames were all the same between cast and stamped but i have my doubts. I have never personally swapped arms to a different k-frame so im not 100% sure.
Jay, they are a normal width. 2 out of the 3 dynasties ive had, i put daytona k-frames and arms into. The REAR suspension is a little different from most of the other k-cars but nobody wants that stuff off a dynasty anyway.
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
I remember years ago looking at those and not having something that fit them and deciding its something not worth doing (making something new) because of so few around. Just buy the popular cast arms!
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
Ahh, so you tried the stamped arms bushings in them and they did not work? If so, yeah, they are a useless unicorn part.

And every other bushing I had around at the time.
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
I thought Imperials and New Yorkers were "Y" body cars...or is that '91-up?
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
Alright, based on Johnny's real world experience, i retract my entire premise of these arms being useful in any way!! I edited my first post to reflect that info.
Chris, i think the AC/AY distinction comes from AY being stretched ACs. So dynasty and some new yorker being short wheelbase, some new yorker and all imperial being longer wheelbase. Suspension should be the same on either. The body style started in 88 and ended in 93 iirc.
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
I learned something new! I didn't know there were different wheelbase New Yorkers!
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
Well, a New Yorker Salon was basically a dynasty with different badging and trim. A New Yorker Fifth Avenue was basically an imperial with different fascias, badging and trim. The longer cars had several more inches between the B and C pillars and have fairly massive rear legroom. Even a Dynasty is a little bigger than a spirit that way, but the stretched cars have crazy rear legroom for a ~3100 lb car.

The dyNASTY control arms are different and not compatible with a kcar kframe: http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/kn...ontrol-Arm-101
Perhaps you could swap the frames and arms as a complete unit between the platforms but something subtle is different about both the kframe and the control arm angles on the C body dual pivot arms relative to the other kcars. A few people have tried to install Cbody cast arms on a kcar dual pivot frame and things don't line up right. This on top of the fact that the Cbody bushings aren't available makes them something to avoid.
If the normal kframe/arm setup fits on a Cbody as a complete unit then that might be a good upgrade to the Cbody allowing you to have upgraded bushings on the Cbody.

Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
Well damn, now i want to know how they could possibly be different. I swapped a stamped arm 89 daytona k-frame into my 90 dynasty and nothing seems to have changed. If anything that would suggest to me that these dont shift the ball joint like later arms. Also, as far as i know my 93 dynasty had the more obviously staggered bushing sizes like most other 91-up, but i ALSO put a cast-arm daytona frame in that one at some point which also didnt move its ball joint. ?
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
From Rich's measurements a while back it's actually the knuckle which moves the wheels.
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
Ok, cool. Seems like i knew that at some point and forgot it from lack of use.. heh
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
It's the knuckle that moves the ball joint down.
The A-arms move the wheels forward.

You'll have to check the picture Rich posted a while back. It certainly doesn't look that way...

this implies it's in the arms. I admit im still a little confused by the whole thing, probably for lack of use like i said.
Re: 1990 Cast arms have 2 small bushings like stamped arms do.
I've measured the ball joint location on the bottom of the '91-up knuckles vs. my '88 Daytona knuckles. I can 100% assure you that the vertical position of the ball joint is the knuckle's responsibility. This is what changed the roll center.
The caster change is what moves the wheel forward in the wheel well. That is from the A-arm. Chris Still and myself did the physical testing of this because I had the issue of the tire rubbing the front inside part of the wheel well.
