Upgrading alternator -- Which harness to use?
Hey guys I am putting a newer style alternator (from '89 Daytona) into my T2 Shelby Charger. Is there an alternator harness out there that would plug right in to the stock plugs on my current harness? Or will I have to use an '89 harness and splice the ends? Thanks in advance.
Re: Upgrading alternator -- Which harness to use?
I used the stock 85 glh harness in my omni. Now I haven't run the car yet but I have confirmed with cordes who did the same swap. He has a how to on his webpage http://www.omniglht.com

*UPDATE*
I have the wiring all completed and am now trying to mount the new alternator. First let me post up this pic taken from cordes' webpage:

The tensioner on the far right is the type that came with my new style alternator. After trying to install it, I realized that this tensioner would not mount onto the '85 style l-body waterpump housing.
So next, I had a new '89 waterpump and housing laying around so I swapped that on. The alternator tensioner will bolt up!!! BUT...the 89 Daytona waterpump housing will not work because the inlet where the rad hose mounts to was too close to the frame (no room for the rad hose to go on).
Now, I swapped my '85 waterpump and housing back on. With this pump back on, I found that I would be able to use the tensioner that is pictured in the middle. Perfect fit! BUT...the rubber bushing in it broke so the tensioner is no good now :(
Now I have to either A) find another one of those tensioners or B) Get a waterpump and housing from an '89 or '90 Omni and I should be able to use the tensioner pictured on the far right.
Ugggghhh

Do this, you could probably get away with not notching out the unibody a bit if you cut out the tensioner arm or maybe a shorter belt but I was fed up at this time.-

Re: Upgrading alternator -- Which harness to use?
FINALLY I have this task completed. I ended up using the tensioner pictured in the middle (found another one) and used a Nippo alternator from an '89 CSX. Looks great in the car all cleaned up and clear coated :eyebrows:
