Just put a Nippo alt in an L body and it bolts right it!!!!!

I just did a Nippo install on an 86 GLHT and reused the old bracket. Just had to clearance the frame a bit but it bolts right on. I'll post pics later.

That is pretty impressive. Perhaps my nappy old bracket was just too far gone to reuse. Or did I use the other bracket to have clearance for the IC? I forget now. I will have to go back and check my page.

I put a custom 160 amp ND unit on my Daytona & didn't have to do a thing. *shrug*

I just did the alt upgrade on my 87 GLHS a few weeks ago. I got the alt & bracket from the J-yard as per cordes' website. The bracket, however, wouldn't clear the water pump housing without some modification. I had to completely sever the part that is supposed to bolt to the long bolt on the water pump and use only the bolt on bottom. Even after cutting the "ear" off, I still had to grind a notch in the bracket so it could rotate upward to the proper angle without hitting the water pump housing. I probably should have just bought the new style pump housing as cordes mentions on his page. Then I tried 4 different belts.
1st- stock glhs = too big,
2nd - stock for nippo = too small,
    3rd - autozone's in-between belt = too big,
    4th - O'reilly's in-between belt = just right.

Now my voltage is awesome! full charge at idle with headlights and fan on! I can get the part number for the belt if anyone needs it.

I have a 90 amp ND alternator in my Omni GLH. The factory electrical connections are different but compatible on the circuit level. Same 4 wires just like any other 2.2/2.5 alternator. On my car I used pretty much everything I could from an '89 turbo Caravan including the shortblock and accessories/bracketry/belts.

I do recall having to slightly enlarge the (+) ring terminal so it would fit over the (+) stud on the ND alternator. Other than that it hooks right up.

They use the same wiring, 2 field wires, ground and power. It all bolted right up, the only mod was to notch the frame. I used the top bolt hole on the stock tensioner and thats it. I tried to use the CB tensioner but it needs serious modding. I reused the belt also. Its really easy,

Pics as promised. I might have to notch out the adjuster arm a bit, we'll see. For now, she clears, I rotated the engine for more room.

Wow that is pretty nifty that it works like that. It sounds like it is better to use the stock bracket if you are sticking with the old style pump housing.

Most definately, all the links post to using other brackets which I don't understand. The stock one works perfectly.

Why? 1 min to notch the frame and its done. Won't affect anything. Other option is cut and reweld bracket to clear, no thanks, tired of working on it.

My GLHS had a Nippo on it when I got it, all stock wiring and no notch anywhere in the frame. Stock brackets too. I didn't think it was a big deal, after all it is smaller than the Chrysler and Bosch alt's.

I could have got away with it by using a smaller belt but I just want it finished, everytime I work on it, I find more stuff,

Yeah, I got it not running with a blown engine, built a nice forged TII and converted it over for my customer but everytime I drive it, something happens. The overcharging is finally fixed so fingers crossed, this is my last road test and I can call him up.

Guess the cure is not to drive it then huh simon? Oh and the factory put a big brace right where you cut on the GLH turbo's so it must of been kind of important to have every bit of strength there as possible.
