CSRT vs STI and turbo Integra

I was out and about tonight in the Shelby Lancer. Was just on the way home when I notice a group of cars go by way over the speed limit. They were just getting on the brakes after a street race. Looked like two Mustangs, a Subaru STI, and an Acura Integra. Hmmm....thought about going after them in the SL for some fun, but they were going the opposite direction anyway.

So I get home and find the key for my CSRT. What the heck, I'll go out and see if I run into them. I need to get more seat time in this car anyways, and I haven't had a real race since I've owned the car. Within two minutes I find the same group of cars at the local gas station/car wash hangout. So I park right in front and head inside for a soda.

I get back to my car and start heading out of the parking lot, goosing the throttle a little as I go by them. Sure enough, they start to follow me out onto the highway. I decided now would be a good time to shut the ESP switch off (traction control) I stayed at the speed limit though town and finally after about a mile the STI decides to take a stab at the CSRT. We slow down to about 20 MPH and go from a roll. Right away he lurches forward but I regain the lead while still in 2nd gear. I grab 3rd and start RUNNING away from him. I get on the brakes and he goes by giving me the thumbs up.

Next up is the turbocharged Integra. This time it's from a dig at a red light. Seemed like I got a better launch as the Integra spun a bit out of the hole. He keeps up pretty good in 1st gear, 2nd gear I'm pulling on him...3rd gear and full boost he's waaay back there now. Holy cow! I think I even surprised myself there! That Integra was LOUD as hell.

So I pull into the next gas station and all five of our cars park. We get out and B.S. for a while. Seemed like pretty cool guys. Then I notice the guy in the STI is the same guy I raced in my Omni a few years back. I spun a rod bearing beating this STI in my Omni and it's been in the garage ever since. Felt good to have some revenge I didn't get the mods on the STI, but apparently he hasn't done anything to the car since the last time I raced him in my Omni.

The guy in the Integra seemed kinda pissed that he lost to the Caliber. The Integra had a 1.8L DOHC motor, T3/T4 hybrid turbo that he claimed was a "TO4X" (heheh), big intercooler, HKS BOV, short ram intake, Some big --- external wastegate (LOUD!!!), and was supposedly running E85 and making 400 WHP. He told me he lost because he was spinning the tires the whole time. Sure man. Sure.

All in all it was a good time. I asked the guys driving the Mustangs if they wanted to run 'em but they didn't seem too interested. Seemed like they had seen enough already as they were behind us when I raced the other two. One was a previous gen GT model, possibly a Mach 1, the other was a fairly new GT, maybe an '07 model.

Honda math FTW..."I beat this car that made 350 whp and pulled him, so I have to be making 400 whp!"

Good kills....what's done to the Caliber? 20 roll? Holy smokes, I'd have spun all day!

Re: CSRT vs STI and turbo Integra

Yup, about 20 MPH roll with the STI and me in 2nd gear. To tell you the truth I think the CSRT's torque management keeping the boost lower in 1st and 2nd gear helps a lot! It's not like the jackhammer onset of boost like a graingered Turbo II. With the ESP switch off it definitely makes it easier to spin the tires but not too much. I had it off in these races. In third gear the ECU allows full boost (10/11 psi) and the car really takes off. First and second gear I only see about 4-6 psi. My CSRT is bone stock and about 2100 miles. Even the air in the tires is stock haha.

Re: CSRT vs STI and turbo Integra

The SL is still running good and I probably drive it more than my CSRT actually. Broke another window regulator last night though, so I gotta rip the door apart again, ugh. I'm building up a new drivetrain for the SL, should be putting the smack down on my CSRT when it's done, can't wait!

Wow! My younger brother has an A6 with the 2.7TT and 6spd. It is plenty fast, and no traction issues at all. I think if he could launch it just right I would be playing catch up in the CSRT for half the race at least. On the highway from a roll I think the CSRT would have no trouble. Maybe I should egg him on and find out for sure...

Re: CSRT vs STI and turbo Integra

Hahah yeah, it must be humbling to get beat by a Caliber. Even if you win, you can't brag to your friends! Kinda reminds me of the Omni GLH Turbo spanking the Mustangs/Camaros back in the late 80s and early 90s.

Re: CSRT vs STI and turbo Integra

Raced what I think is the same STI a few days ago. This time we lined up and went from 40-100 MPH. I waited until he went, then as soon as I mashed the gas the CSRT seemed to spool up faster and I walked him the entire time. Was 1-2 car lengths ahead by the time we shut it down.

This STI wasn't stock either. It at least had an exhaust; loud with a big shiny muffler and huge tip out the back. What gives? I thought these cars were faster than that Heck, my CSRT is optioned out to the max and had a full tank of gas. Doesn't get any heavier than this for a CSRT. Still bone stock too.
