Re: Who has run the fastest in a TIII powered car/van, full weight?
good example:
fleckster went 13.7 @100 (i think) on street tire, but with just throwing on slicks one pass later ran a 13.1 @100mph. he just hooked better. i have a buddy with a 68 firebird that runs 13.1 @86mph, he has a 502 but a stock 400 trans and 4:10 rear end, if he were to increase his top end, he would be in the low 11's. |

Re: Who has run the fastest in a TIII powered car/van, full weight?
Actually it was 13.77@102, then 13.34@102. Traction rules! They weren't back to back runs as the best street tire pass was the first run of the day and the slicks pass was the last one of the day. However, they were the same day, same track, and with no changes made to the car all day. The short times were 2.1 on the street tires and 1.9 on slicks. That pretty much follows the rule for our cars, every tenth improvement in the 60 foot time is worth two tenths in the Quarter.

Re: Who has run the fastest in a TIII powered car/van, full weight?
Regarding this record, I dont know why anyone would even talk about street tires :P
You can either try to make a decent 60' each pass but be incredibly inconsistant and still never get a decent launch, or sit on the rev limiter after staging and never stop holding WOT until you shift to 2nd (unless you shift WOT). A well sorted car 60's itself. |

What do car magazines use when they run their cars? I'm sure they use stock rubber. And even though slicks will give you a better time, the street tires will give you a realistic time. Maybe I'm wrong but, again, I'm not a track guy so, take it easy on me when replying...

Re: Who has run the fastest in a TIII powered car/van, full weight?
no slicks, no record
![]() Realistic means "what would/could likely happen" So slicks vs radials has nothing to do with something being realistic. Also, magazine car tests are about the least realistic use of a car. If we believed what they said, this website wouldn't exist ![]() Magazines test factory cars. They rarely play with modified cars. If they do, they are not the ones driving. |

slicks are cheap compared to ruining street tires....once you get hooked you'll be out there every weekend anyways....

Re: Who has run the fastest in a TIII powered car/van, full weight?
Not official numbers by anymeans. But hopefully a glimpse of things to come. The RT is running 19.5psi (11.2ish a/f, 1450 deg egt, full spool by 4100-4500). The tired old walbro 255 seems to be really tired, and doesnt want to go over 22, so until a new one gets here. keeping the boost "low" The other night, got to do a couple pulls with a Charger SRT8. It was a beautiful black car. Nicely done. We saw each other on the highway. He reved at me as I cruised past just keeping up with the small amount of traffic on the road. We went from a 3rd gear (for me) 50mph. Way out of the happy rpm zone for my holset. but, it still made a nice 14psi right away, which kept the charger at my rear bumper, which is where he stared, but at about 5000 rpm, the turbo totally wakes up, squeaks the drag radials, and proceeds to pull the srt without a problem to a minimum of 2 cars at 6800-7k in 4th gear. (probably was more, but its hard to look anywhere but the road at that speed)
I was ecstatic. I knew the car felt good, but never really had a good test for it until that night. We pull up to the next light, and the guys passengers mouth was on the door. He asked what I had done and I was so damn excited, I didnt know what to say as I was kinda freaking out. lol I told him I had a holsethx40, meth injection and a couple other goodies. He says to me, I have heard of alot of them turbo cars running on ethanol. lol I had to tell him, no, no, no, pump gas. Meth injection aka boost cooler. Hes like, well props on one of the best sounding 6 cyl I have ever raced. I said, oh no its just a 2.2 liter. At this point his passenger pics his jaw up off the door and kinda yells A 2.2 LITER! I was like yeah. He again says, well props on one of the loudest, best sounding cars I have raced. At this point, I complimented him on his totally beautiful car and said, I could hear your exhaust over my cutout almost, what do you have done to that thing? He grins and says, exhaust, intake, programmer and "a couple other goodies" with this huge smile on his face. I have no idea what all was done to it, but it was a bad --- car. We proceeded to play alittle more as we went down the highway. At one point, a ford lightning saw us playing and wanted to join I guess. We blew him away so bad, I thought he wasnt trying. lol So, I have a little more faith in the car to say the least. lol Anyone want to guess on what " a couple other goodies" may have been? From the sound of it, it was not only open exhaust by possibly a cam or maybe even some head work, you know how they get that sound. His car sounded bad ---! Will be putting a fuel pump in and heading to the dyno now that my electronic boost controller is here. Low will be set for 20, high 30, not sure about the "oh ---- I am getting beat" overboost button, but its there. Hope to have some numbers within the next month. I also have a video of the RT running a GTO from a stop. It was only the 5.7L and unfortunately stock, so it was not a real hard race despite the fact I was giving it away off the line. I was even letting off at the end early. I will be posting that as soon as I am done editing it.There is this one too 15psi practice runs.- Video in case anyone missed it. Its only 15psi, but I really like the spinning the drag radials in 2nd gear on the second pass.
