2008 Pump Gas Drags Results...

Hey everyone. I just pulled back in from the drive back from pump gas drags.

We've been quietly working non-stop re-engineering Lee Saunders' turbo Viper in preparation for this event and unveiled it to everyone there.

Unfortunately we had some bad luck with the track not doing their job very well making us re-run the second round of elim's after we qualified first with an 8.38 @ 178 mph. Our second time up we redlit by accidently deep staging. Oh well.

On another note, we are the only car ever to knock down the next barrier at Pump Gas Drags. Immediately following the Rockett fuel guys testing our fuel supply to verify it was their 93 octane mix we finally ran the car all the way out the back door after we had been running her easy for the other passes.

We ran a new world record of 7.993 @ 183 mph on straight 93 octane! With a badly matched convertor only allowing a 1.44 60'. We'll just say that there is plenty left in her.

I am beyond proud to have fabricated the entire setup on the car with my co-worker George Freer. I think you guys will like it too.

Check here for videos and pictures.

http://www.racevideoforums.com/forum...5-10-08-a.html

In the picture below is our crew, left to right, Joe Saunders (Lee's father, white shirt), TJ Fox (Heffner Performance Technician), Aaron Miller (Me! Heffner Performance Fabricator), George Freer (Heffner Performance Fabricator), John Walker (Heffner Performance foreman), Zack Caruso (Heffner Performance Technician), Lee Saunders (Owner/driver).

That's the entire Heffner shop minus the owner, Jason, whom was also present at the event.

Thank you sir. Head to the fabrication section for more detailed pictures, although not too many. I'm way too tired! We finished and dyno'd the car thursday night, tested friday afternoon, then headed straight to memphis for the race saturday morning!

I did enjoy them. I didn't take one single picture of the entire event due to how busy we were. I'm glad there were a number of people taking care of that for me though! I don't have any pics of the headers after it's been ran for a while, only while I was building them and as the car was being put back together.

It was fun to finally put some boost into the car and let it run out the back half of the track. It only had .5 psi more in it than the rest of the runs, Lee just never put it down for the whole track. It's a shame our luck at that event. Two in a row that we had the field covered by a large portion and twice now that some combination of events caused us to not finish where we felt we should have.

Oh well though, redlights are part of racing too!

yep, I know the feeling, when I got down the 1/4 I wish people would record it for me. I've been using an in car camera lately so I at least get something to play back. Logs are nice to look and but I still enjoy hearing what I did wrong

my wife and I said the same thing...you guys just can't catch a break. It's okay, everyone knows who really had the baddest car out there.

I think the best pass by the t-bird that showed on the board was 174, it's no slouch but that's a huge difference and I can't imagine what it's going to do when you get that 60' back down.

Yeah, i personally watched it friday night crack an 8.44 @ 174. He was fighting off some issues through the whole weekend. He worked hard for the win, that's for sure.

Afterwards he came up and told us and Lee that he had built that car solely to come to race against us, to give us some competition. That he did! I loved it when we were eliminated and he said, "you know what, I think I'm in the only guy here that's dissapointed to hear that."

Stand up racer.

How come only 4-5 cars bother to use an air dam and dont look like 4x4's? (4-5 cars look to be a lot faster :P )

p.s. Mellon needs to ruin his financial situation and fix his other car
