Word has it some of the valves tend to not hold up to high boost/pressure situations. All rumors though, as you know I have no expierence with one.

Just let Bryan do your head up, it's worth it. Or buy mine

They are head and shoulders above a stock cylinder head, but if you were to try one from the vendors out there (menegon for instance) you'd be even more impressed. The MP IMSA valve heads don't flow all that impressively.

    Re: IMSA Head

There were also "Early" and "Late" IMSA big valve heads. The early ones were ported significantly more than the late ones (cost savings) so that will make a difference too.

I had flowed a brand new one Gus had some years ago and wasn't impressed with the flow vs. dollars spent. I had a bunch of paperwork with specs on heads that was lost. I'll see if I can find them for you.

Would someone else who doesn't do their own badass porting be impressed?

#'s would be great, what year the head was ported for MP, if known, would be awesome too.

He never installed that head after he saw the disappointing flow results.

I bought one around 1990, it sucked, defiantly not worth the money. I had it flowed years later, it was marginally better than stock. After some porting & such it's now respectable.

Thanks guys. Price isn't a big role. A friend of mine said he has one that he can hook me up with. I guess I'll be swapping it out real fast after I break everything in.

I don't know what year the head was. I do recall it was definitely a later year G casting vs. the older '81-'82 casting.

    Re: IMSA Head

Picked it up today. Cost me $2 in gas for the head.
The friend who gave it to me said he wasn't quite sure if it was an IMSA head, just that the guy he got it from said it was. Anywho, after looking at it, not quite sure if MP would do this kind of port job. It's a great base to start with nonetheless in my opinion.

What's a good place in Michigan where I can get this flowed at? Does it cost a lot to get a head flowed?

BTW, quality of the pictures may be really bad. Had to reduce them from a 1.8MB file to around 100K lol.
