On my Daytona - '87 wiring - the wire harness unbolts from the bulkhead.
On the CSXT - 88 wiring - it looks like the wire harness passes through the firewall at the same point.
How difficult is it to swap out the harness on the '88 P-body?

it requires a basic knowlege of elect. and reading wiring diagrams/pinouts.
you'll need to swap the bulkhead off the 87 engine harness and splice it into the 88 underhood harness. i have the 87/88 bulkhead pinout diagrams if needed. lmk
here this is a thread i started a while back, it has the diagrams and much more info. i love the search feature

OK, I'll ask again because maybe you misunderstood.
On my '87 wiring in my daytona, if I want to remove the wire harness it is a simple matter of unbolting it from the bulkhead.
On my '88 that I just brought home, it does not look to be that simple. I don't want to convert, just remove the underhood harness from the '88. Is it as simple as unbolting it from the bulkhead? It was getting dark when I looked at it.
As far as I know, P-bodies don't have bulkhead connectors. That is what I have read atleast. So no, it won't be as easy to disconnect as your g-body.

Actually just look around more you can find SMEC engine harnesses with bulkhead connectors that are the same as an 87. I think I found one specifically on something like an 88 lebaron GTS (lancer). If you do decide to run the 88 stuff on an 87 that is the way to go. I think I might even have the harness if someone is interested in it.
You will find a connector under the dash that bolts together just like the older cars did at the firewall. Just undo that and then pull on the wires from the dash side and the gromet will let loose and you can take out the harness. Better yet pry the gromet loose with a screwdriver first then pull it out.

OK, thanks.
What I need to do exactly is remove the '88 SMEC underhood wiring from my CSXT and repair or replace it.
So... I will need to find a P-body specific wiring harness?
It is possible that other cars wiring could also work. I have never really been able to figure out the differences. I think the shadows and daytonas were the same. The lebaron gts was different (possibly others)
yes, the Pbodies don't have a bulkhead anywhere. They have about 5-7 plugs under the dash. Just pull all the plugs and pop out the grommet and they'll all come out through the firewall.
i am new to this site and was wondering if the late 80s engine harness will be able to be spliced together to a 93 harness for the rest of the car in a shadow .i have a 3.0v6 and my friend gave me the engine and trans out of the 85 turbo z and i want to rebuild it and put it in the shadowmy only thing is the engine harness ,i dont have it.ive been looking for it at the junkie but no luck .i would really like to put this motor in the car and any help would be a help
