Thread: Is this a 1987 GLHS Fan Shroud?

Is this a 1987 GLHS Fan Shroud?

here's a fan shroud on a 1986 GLHS, notice the ugly cut-out made for the upper radiator hose:

i bought a used shroud assembly, seller claimed it was removed from a 1986 GLHS, note the smooth, less deep cut-out on the shroud:

.....marked with this part number on bottom:

is this just another version of a shroud for the '86 S car or is this a shroud from a 1987 GLHS? or something else? thanks for the help.

It looks like it. I have a GLHS fan in my Shelby Charger and it has the same "cutout" as the one in my 1987 GLHS. I was under the assumption that the 1986 GLHS fan was the same.

Kevin thanks, yeah I also presumed the shrouds on the two types of GLHS cars would be the same, but I have now heard back from another '87 owner and he confirms the pix I have are indeed same as his '87 shroud.

i wonder if this shroud was used on the CSX in 1987. or would that be an entirely different shroud since its not an L-body?

Went out and looked at a couple GLHS cars and you pretty much have it figured out. The 1987 S cars have the notch built into the shroud while the 1986 S cars were modified.

I will say that your 1986 shroud looks pretty rough where it was notched. Possibly a new person was being trained when your shroud was modified or maybe a Monday morning hangover.

And yes the 1987 CSX & Lancer used a different fan motor/shroud.

great info thanks, good to hear from you i was hoping you'd know the answer.

the pix above of the '86 GLHS shroud is Dominic Papa's #015 w/ 5,700 miles on it....but mine is also rough, and the other two '86 nearby (Jonny's and Cliff's) also have rough looking cuts, like they were hand cut with tin snips after a six pack of beer.

were the actual fans the same in 86 and 87?

Well actually it was something I never really paid attention to before but after seeing the picture you posted on td.com it made me wonder about it.

The next question is do the 1986 fans have the cs part # on the shroud? I'm guessing no but if you get a chance take a look.

i'll be ripping my shroud out of my car in the spring, gonna canabilize this '87 assembly for the fan and motor (my car's fan mouting clip area is damaged for some reason), then i'll check for part # markings.

i was wondering if anyone knew about the actual fans blades used in the shelby modified cars: i know they were special for the 86 and 87 glhs but were the two years identical? did the csx and lancer also get same special fan blades? sorry so many q's i got a bunch of NOS parts that were all suppose to be for the 86 car but already i am finding this isnt so.
