    taft cam question

    hi guys

how much will a taft cam be off when installed onto a square tooth cam gear? i seem to recall 4 degrees but wasnt too sure. i had planned to install it straight up as i dont have a adj cam gear and remembered something about the cam being off.

    thanks for your help

    Re: taft cam question

Square to round don't matter one bit. They're the same.

Test for you or anybody else that thinks otherwise:
In a spare head align the cam sprocket using the factory arrows. (use square tooth sprocket at this point) Slip off the sprocket and swap the round tooth #557 sprocket* in its place. Arrows are still lined up at the #1 cam cap base.

*(note) As pointed out in the KB here the #690 round tooth sprocket retards the cam 4* I've found these sprockets on later 2.5 engines. Doesn't matter in your case since your going SQTH.

The Taft cams are a regrind and have a 114* installed centerline (S1 and S2) 115* for the S3 if that helps. They should be degreed in.

I still think until checked, you will be 4 deg retarded. I would still get the gear as it needs centerlining anyhow.

Simon ... I checked it. Got all the sprockets in question right here. If I wasn't 100% sure, I wouldn't post it
