It could have led to the failure...

Come on guys, don't start this Code 52 thread without me I've been battling a code 51 ( seldom ) and 52 ( VARY Often )since November. I'm now to the point of having someone look into my problem.
Do you have any other symptoms? I have a stumble at slight throttle useage AND, when I keep my speed constant, any where between 25 and 35 mph, a surging. I replaced my O2 with a Autozone Bosch so IDK if that's the cause or what. If you look at my plugs, starting at the passenger side you can see I do have something amiss...no pun intended:
I'll be watching this so you better keep it updated. My "helper" and I would like to see what's going on.
Thanks!
Paul
Is there any way a regular person can check for a bad cat in the driveway? Or would I have to have a shop test it?Originally Posted by GLHSKEN

Wow. It's almost like you've got the wrong intake/computer combo. 1 and 2 WAY lean. I would ditch the bosch O2. Get a Mopar in there!Originally Posted by 02Gcaravan

Now, let's get back to Brigg's original thread - Sorry for the offshoot
Paul, you have a compression issue or dirty-faulty injectors, another oxygen sensor won't fix that and if your running rich due to the above, that will set a code 52.
K-Briggs, bad cat won't set a code but if its plugged up, could trigger a rich code as the exhaust can't get out or the code 52-bad ox took out the cat. Easy to tell, drop the DP, clear codes and go for a drive, if the code doesn't come back and you've got way more power, chances are, cats plugged.

thanks guys. paul, a good way to tell if you have a bad cat is to hit it with your hand. if it sounds like metal is rattling around in there. its bad.
oh, and i do somtimes get a slight shutter when at idle too.
Listen to this then:Originally Posted by K-BRIGGS

The last two idle increases I did were in D and R, holding the brake down. The others were just in PARK.
sounds bad. mine you can feel, but thers no change in rpms.
That's just it - at those speeds, 25 - 35 mph - If I keep the car rolling at one of those, I get surging. But once I get into boost, ANY boost, it's running fine. I hope to God it's just the injectors....Originally Posted by K-BRIGGS

I'm checking the compression Thursday so I'll be under there check them out as well.Originally Posted by 87glhs232
Although, this may be bad After buying it I had a 3 hour drive home. It was running MORE than pig rich - almost a raw fuel smell was coming from the exhaust. I got the new Bosch O2 in there a day later BUT, I didn't get an oil change until AFTER the video that my friend and I made = us "testing" our cars against one another. It was posted on TurboDodge, the one of the Saturn SC2 and me. So, running more than pig rich = fuel being dumped into the engine = oil washed down + the video = possible cylnder trouble. Like I said though, I'm checking compression Thursday. I'm hoping for the best, but if not, do you know of any T1 or T2 engines for sale that would be ready to drop in?
That doesn't sound too bad but it does sound rich, definatley let us know what you find out after the compression test.

Bring that car over ....we can "mod" that cat easy.....
i still have the pipe i "modded" my cat with...a steel rod.
deuce
Thats a bad way to do it, the empty shell makes the exhaust pulses echo and is actually bad for flow,Originally Posted by deuce dodge

lol SIMON......
reminds me of this really trick looking muffler i found at pic n pay.straight through. with dimples......looked awesome .and it was chrome......
went home and did a search on it..the muffler cost $100 and had the worst flow ever...pulses just slammed into each other....
my exhaust emptys after the hollow cat..better than stock flow.......not perfect.
