    Oil Leak

A friend of mine has a '85 Omni, 2.2L, carb. Her problem is the engine is loosing oil so fast you can see it dropping on the pavement while she is driving. She asked me to look at it.

I removed the shroud from the bottom and the belts. The side of the engine was so soaked with oil I decided it had to be the driveshaft seal. I replaced that and took it for a drive. Didn't fix a thing. Oil just running out of it. You can see the oil coming off the timing belt as it's idleing. I haven't taken the timing belt lower cover off yet. I will do that and start the engine again and hope to see where the oil is coming from. When I replaced the crankshaft seal I wanted to replace the intermediate shaft seal but I couldn't figure how to get the gear off the shaft. No holes in the gear to install a puller.

Any ideas where this oil could be coming from?

    Thanks, Bill

    Re: Oil Leak

Its either the int shaft seal, cam seal, or the oil galley plug has come off right by the int shaft. It could also be the valve cover but that wouldn't be hard to miss.

The int pulley slides off once you remove the bolt and move the alt bracket out of the way.

    Re: Oil Leak

I'll look for the oil gallery plug. The oil is coming out so fast it's got to be something more that a seal, I hope. Thanks for the reply.
