    A couple tune-up questions

I want to do a tune-up on the Tona, and I got a couple questions. Here's the skinny on my car: 90 ES T1 auto. Bone stock except manual boost controller, running 10# un-intercooled.

    1. Spark plugs - when is it a good idea to go a heat range colder? I'll probably use NGK.

    2. Timing - what's a good base timing? I think "stock" is 12* at idle. Good enough?

    3. O2 sensor - How big of a pain in the --- is it to get to? I have a slotted socket for O2 sensors, so I'm not worried about getting it off, but is it easy to get to?

That's all I can think of for now. Thanks for the help.

    Re: A couple tune-up questions

    1) Yeah, a range or two colder can only help. I've put AutoLite "63"s in my mostly-stock cars and honestly I've never had an issue with fouling.

    2) Good enough.

    3) It's really not that bad. I don't have the slotted socket, but I usually take a hammer to the sensor, bust off the body, and put a socket on it. I've always been able to get my breaker bar in there well enough to crack it loose.

NGK Iridiums are awesome plugs, last forever. Get some good wires-Aurora, Magnecore, Taylor, MSD. Dont' forget about the fuel filter and PCV valve.

Use only NTK or OEM oxygen sensors, Bosch and others are crap. I would soak the Ox sensor overnight with penatrating oil, then cut off the wire and use a regular 7/8 socket, they can be very hard to get out. Brake clean off the area when done to remove the oil as it will damage the new sensor.

I forgot, use some recessed plugs, they will help, especially with no intercooler. I am using NGK BR9ES plugs, just have them get you the Iridium version and you'll be fine.
