Need pics and ideas for a CAI for a 3" turbo inlet

When I used to have a 3" air inlet on my OMNI, I just had a piece of Flexhaust brand tubing 3" id stuck on the inlet of the turbo piped down to a K&N cone in front of the drivers side tire. Seemed to work fine.

I'm working on a LeBaron with a Precision turbo that has a air inlet of 3", but my old Flexhaust stuff is just a tad too small to fit over the inlet. I guess the inlet is just a tad bigger than my old Turbonetics turbo that I had on my OMNI.

I need to come up with a filter setup on this car ASAP. Thought this might be a good oppurtunity to find out what great ideas other people have came up with when running hybrids. Pics would be great!

    Thanks!

I have a T3/T04E on my Horizon with a TU header. I have a 3" 90 degree on the compressor housing with 3" aluminum tubing going up to the battery tray area. I am using a skinny battery there is enough room for a sizable cone filter right there. It's just behind the radiator support that has been clearanced for my intercooler plumbing, so I'm pretty sure it will get a nice amount of fresh air.

I have been wanting to pipe an CAI into the vent area in front of the windshield. Our cars have a huge high pressure zone there and would suck some good air in there.

Tried to find a 3" elbow tonight. Tried AutoStone, RetardAutoParts and Crapa with no luck.

I know this might sound korny....but has anyone used the Spectre brand DIY intake kits? They sell the crap at AutoStone. You can see it here:

Yep, that's how I built my intake.

Here was my 3" with the T2 intercooler as a front mount:

When I added the front mount I put the intake below the battery tray.

I just took the battery tray out and brought the 3" straight pipe out to about where the battery tray meets the end of the pipe, then put a Durimax (sp?) flex hose to connect to the intake.

Go to Home Depot or Lowes...they have rubber elbows in the plumbing section.

Since we are in a hurry, I ordered a elbow from Summit. It's a Samco blue silicone, cost $50. Turbonetics has the nitrile ones for $18, but Summit didn't have them in stock.

Measured up the remaining frontal area behind the grill (using various precision objects to measure, such as boxes and coffee cans) to find the max size airfilter we could fit up there. Finally settled on a 7" long coffee can that was 6.25" diameter. Went to KN's website and found a filter the same size and ordered from Summit. In stock and only like $30 or so.

Should be on our way now.

    See you at Turbopalooza!!!!

    Sure!
Just got it all done last night. Came out real nice. The Samco blue hose is a real nice piece, even though it was real expensive. Have it on the turbo inlet, then a 3" piece of straight pipe for a connector to the 3" Flexhaust ducting, then to the KN filter up front behind the grill. Should work real nice and looks good too.
Taking it to get the wideband O2 bung welded in today. Gotta lot of tuning to do!
