    Intercoolers without modifications

I'm sure it's been asked but can't find, but what intercoolers are good to get that don't require much modification? IE something like older Subarus used that sat on top of the intake. Anything available like that? Specifically for a T1 (1985) Shelby. Thanks!

The TI log cars aren't the easiest to intercool. The intake manifold doesn't distribute air very evenly due to its design and that can cause problems when running north of 12 or so PSI. I do know we've had members to run them a lot higher than that, but at that point I think you're well past diminishing returns hitting you hard.

All that said, the large NPR intercoolers are the best drop in fit in my book. They do a good job of straddling the radiator up front and the piping isn't ridiculously sized.

If you're looking for ideas, there's a little of everything in this thread:

While there are a lot of dead links nearly 20 years on (guilty!) there are still a lot of pics which are stored on the site.

    Re: Intercoolers without modifications

Intercooling a T1 log manifold requires the removal of the intake manifold so an elbow can be welded on to alter the direction of the intake's inlet. Most people opt to install a later 1 or 2 piece intake which flows much better than the early log intakes, rather than weld the early T1 intake.
WAY back in the day, two companies offered intercooler kits, for the turbo cars including the L-bodies. Both of those kits also required intake manifold replacement. Both of these kits have long, long, ago went out of production. So, unless you're willing to basically re-do the top half of the engine, you're SOL. Even these kits were fairly involved. Last picture is how the factory did it.
