1989 Spirit HVAC Blower Not Working

    Hi y'all,

I have a 1989 Dodge Spirit. The blower fan for the heat/ac isn't working.

Power is not getting to the fuse panel on #9 (HTR-AC), #10 (P-WDO), or #11 (back up lamps). I peeked behind the fuse panel - all three of those fuses are powered by the same wire (Black with orange? stripe). I used a jumper wire to power #9. Blower can back to life!

Does anyone know where that Black/Orange wire gets power from? Maybe a fusible link in the engine bay I don't know about?

I'm hoping I don't have to take the steering column apart to check the ignition switch I believe is a Saginaw column - my manual doesn't cover it lol

Thanks for any help you can give me.

I would check the fusible links. I'll see if I can find the diagram in my manuals today and post back up.

It looks like the power comes through the fusible links and then through the ignition switch to the bus on the fuse block. I would check the fusible links first, then suck it up and drop down the column if you cant pull the connector to check for power there.

Thanks, Cordes. I just checked all the fusible links. They are all good and sending power. Looks like the issue is somewhere in the column.

Some cool guy on YouTube has a video about the Saginaw column haha

Kinda cool how your video is helping me now 9 years later! It looks like the ignition switch is accessible if I just drop the column.

Glad it's helping people still. You can definitely get to the connector if you let the column drop down.

Cordes, do you to have a wiring diagram for the column somewhere on file?

I think I have that manual. What, specifically are you looking for? I can take some decent screens hots and post them up.

Re: 1989 Spirit HVAC Blower Not Working

I wish a had a cooler war story, but it was simply a loose wire in the column. I didn’t even have to change the switch. Simple fix!

I had toyed around with the idea of making a switch panel with a push button start eventually (that’s why I asked for the diagram). But that idea can wait :-)

    Thanks again, Cordes.
