    Conventional oils being phased out.

    Interested to hear what others have been using/concocting in our manual transmissions as 5w20 and 5w30 conventional flavor oils are being phased out.

    I have tried everything over the years and still find myself coming back to plain old 5w30 as the best all around lubricant.

    When conventional goes away probably going to use lubriplate spo 233

    I've gone to the O'Reily conventional that they still have. I really wish there was something designed specifically to work with the later 1/2 synchro AND the 3/4 and 5 synchros.

    Is this in the trans? I put 5w30 Mobil high mileage in ours but was told that's likely not a good idea and should have went mobil 1000 but you can't get that stuff here in Canada.

    I will second using Synchromesh. I have also used Redline MTL. The only reason I don't use it more is that it is not available locally... Royal Purple Synchromax is another option.

    To be honest, I would not use 5w-30 motor oil in manual transmissions. Back when the recommendation was made the spec's lined up, since then motor oil formula has been tweaked for engines, not manual transmissions...

    Simply put, I prefer to use a fluid designed for manual transmissions in a manual transmission...

    For manual trans:
    Regular use - Redline MTL
    Performance use/racing - Redline MT90

    I've put thousands of miles on high mile trans with MTL without issues. Original A520 trans in my first CSX, no issues from 90k to 178k when I stopped DD it. My CSX Clone had the original A520 in it (over 100k mi when I got it) and then on MTL drove all over and made over 200+ passes leaving 5k RPM dead-hooking on slicks and low 13's or better before the teeth on 2nd gear fatigued

    Now that's great info! But in Canada they want $120/gal...


    After an amazon search all the synchromesh/ synchro max valvoline, pen, royal p, GM. All seem to be in the same price range. I know straight from GM the ac delco oil was $35/ qrt.
