That's great. Do you have a timeframe in mind for distribution of the first units?

Nice! I need to pick up a few of them. Did you sort out the down pipe situation for these?

Yes, downpipes are very challenging and expensive to have 3D scanned. We connected with someone that has the equipment to do this and to print one to verify fitment. We hope to have a sample of the production downpipe at SDAC if all goes well.

    Thanks,

That's great. I now have the capability to make one, but I'm sure it will be way better to have one which is known to fit and welded by an actual pro. My stainless progress tonight was good, but still ugly by professional standards. Thanks a ton for bringing this product to fruition!

Re: New And Improved Swingvalve on the Drawing Board

Just saw your post. We don’t get to this forum often to check messages.

We are sure most are wondering why it is taking so long for us to launch this new product. Hopefully, this update will shed some light on what we have been up to behind the scenes.

The 4-inch swingalves have been completed since last year. We are just waiting to complete the remaining parts of the kit before we are ready to add this item to our website.

For the downpipes, we hired a CAD designer and he did a phenomenal job on the drawing. It took dozens of renditions/fitments though to clear firewall, Rack & Pinion, CV Shafts, Power Steering units/lines, fitted in multiple body styles and 8V/16V engine platforms. The final product in the attached photo looks fantastic, however, from a manufacturing standpoint there were many hurdles. A mandrel bend for the downturn was not an option as it was too sharp of an angle. Our second choice was to create two clamshell stampings and then have them welded together. For initial production numbers under 1000 units we quickly realized this would be cost prohibitive. We were quoted well over $10k just for the tooling without the parts/labor to assemble and that was only for the first turn of the downpipe assembly. We finally settled on casting an exhaust elbow which would maintain the laminar exhaust flow desired while also providing ample clearance from the power steering unit. Unfortunately, this option will take the longest. A pattern and core box were needed to be created. Once the product is cast the V-Band flanges need to be machined at each end and the O2 sensor tapped. All this work and we have barely made it to the firewall.

Our next component is the mandrel bent formed exhaust pipe. Our local mandrel exhaust tube source, Pace Setter, was bought out by another company and they are no longer in business. We have searched all over the country for a manufacturer who is capable of custom bending 4-inch mandrel 304SS tubing at a cost that will remain within our project budget. Many of the manufacturers wanted to weld 2 pipe sections together but we were adamant about keeping it as one piece. We also needed a V-Band flange welded on one end for the cast elbow and an O2 sensor bung for those of you who wish to run a wide band monitor.

For the final piece of the kit, we have been simultaneously sourcing 4-inch flex pipes and 4-inch to 3-inch reducers to attach to the remaining exhaust system. Tying everything together will require 4-inch V-Band clamps and 4-inch band strap clamps which will be included in the kits. These were fairly easy to source as they are standard in the industry.

Each kit component has required a significant amount of time and financial investment which we have been supporting with our R&D funds. Once we have a solid eta of the last pieces needed, we will offer a discounted pre-buy to our Frequent Buyers Club (FBC) Members. BIG payback to them because we would not have the R&D funds to invest in all our new products and we appreciate their support.

In case you were wondering, there are no fees to become an FBC member and enrollment is automatic. All that is required is that you purchase $1000. worth of products within the last 12 calendar months. Once you have purchased over $5000. of product since you created an account with TU you automatically become a lifetime FBC member and can take advantage of all discounting/benefits.

We hope this update answers all your questions and as soon as we have a confirmed eta for the kit we will provide that information on social media.

Other new products TU is currently working on:

Thanks again for everyone's patience!!! These will be well worth the wait!!!!
