    86 Turbo Z smoke under the heat shield

    Hi everyone! After over a year off the road, I got my 86 Turbo Z running and drove it today. The reason I took it off the road in the first place was a blown break line, and it was burning oil. So, I replaced all the brake lines, pulled the head (because I thought it was a blown turbo, but later discovered oil on the piston top, so assumed valve seals). New valve seals, head gasket, turbo lines, bla bla bla.... It seems the exhaust stopped smoking, so this is a good sign. But now, I am getting a white smoke from the manifold side of the engine, under the heat shield (factory log Turbo I ). I realized I installed a new 2.5" exhaust donut from Turbos Unleashed, but its a factory exhaust, so the donut was too large. Today I replaced the donut with one I had laying around, used.
    Now, I remember every time I blew a head gasket in any of my turbo dodges, upon the first start up, I always got some smoke under the hood from the exhaust burning off antifreeze or whatever was there. This is continuous. It doesn't smell like exhaust, doesn't smell like oil, and I'm not smelling that pancake syrup smell of coolant, but its got to be one of them. Any ideas? I wonder if a pin sized leak in the antifreeze line would be enough to make steam/smoke and not smell like syrup? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Did you coat everything down with antiseize while putting it together? It takes a while for that to burn off in my experience.

    Could be coolant seeping around an exhaust stud.

    I agree, did you disturb or remove any of the bottom four studs that hold the exhaust manifold on? Those four studs penetrate the coolant (water) jacket. See black circled holes in first picture. Red circled holes intersect the head bolt holes. This can cause oil to weep slowly through threads. Second pic blue is direct oil pressure galley. Other two red holes on side of head must be sealed too or oil leakage will occur.
