86 Turbo Z valve cover gasket

Good afternoon,
I am slowly putting my 86 Daytona back together after doing valve seals and a bunch of other maintenance. The valve cover was swapped for the better one piece gasket at one time, but it has this ugly red paint job on it. I have an older Turbo valve cover that I refinished nicely with black and polished aluminum letters back in 2005!! I want to use the black valve cover, which is actually the proper cover for the 86. It has been years since I did the older style cork gaskets. Can someone refresh me on the proper way to install? Is it RTV at the 4 corners where the rubber ends go in and some RTV between the rubber and the cork, or do you use RTV on top and bottom of the cork?

I only use the RTV between cork and valve cover. The 4 corners to the rubber a couple dabs to hold the rubbers into the cover.

This way you can remove the valve cover without having to redo the gasket every time if you need to check lifters etc.

The factory never used cork on the early valve covers, only the aftermarket did. They used the rubber seals on the short ends, and gray RTV along the front and back "long" ends. I NEVER EVER use cork. Guaranteed to leak (weep) if you do. If it doesn't leak at first, give it some time, it will if using cork.

I always use a small amount of black weather strip adhesive on rubber and other types of gaskets.

Weatherstrip to hold the seal to the valve cover, not on the cyl. head side.
