New guy with a garage find.

Hello Mopar folks. A few weeks ago an old friend came to me about a car that has been in his garage for 18 years. He is not a motor head and ask me to help him with sending the car
down the road to someone that would want the car. I don`t know if this is the appropriat forum for this, but we will start here. The car is a 1992 Dodge Shelby Daytona IROC. It is the turbo
4 cylinder 5 speed car. The car has a true 3422 miles on it. The car was covered in the tight garage. The car can be sold as is or
we can get it running. Can any one that is knowledgeable on these cars shed any light about worth and problems? Car is not an R/T with the 16 V ohc motor.

Thanks for any help. Photos posted on down in thread.

8v or 16v car? Post up some pics in the for sale section and you should have some bites.

I take it you mean 4 cyl. or 8 cyl. It is a 4 cyl. turbo and a 5 speed.

I believe it's just telling you to follow the rules. I don't think you need to do anything special, but there may be a minimum post limit before you can post in that subforum?

I forgot that one could get a V6 IROC, but I did mean 8v or 16v. The IROC R/T cars in 92 came with the dual over head cam engine which some desire a great deal. The 8v IROCs don't have the following of the 16V cars, but those who are into them are big into them.

There will be someone interested, especially if the condition is as nice as what I would assume a car with that mileage would be. I can't wait for pics.

Re: New guy with a garage find.

    Welcome to the forum,
The biggest issue with these cars that have been sitting in long term storage is the fuel system and the brakes. I just had a very low mileage 86 GLHS from a local collector at my home this past fall. I had to replace the entire fuel system (less the hard lines). The tank, obviously the fuel, the sending unit, the fuel pump, rubber lines, filter, and the injectors where toast. Need to flush lines and fuel rail out too. Whatever you don't try to put any tank sealer or anything like that to try a band aid fix. That is what killed the injectors on the GLHS. Injectors can also have external leaks from our ethanol in our fuels now. They will leak right out of the main injector body. No fixing that, just replace them. If you decide to get the car running, do it right the first time or you may create more problems for yourself. If these repairs seem too daunting, consider selling it as is. Mechanic shops may do shoddy work and rip you off besides.
Brakes may also be bad. The caliper pistons may have rusted in their bores from the contaminated brake fluid. Brake fluid is hygroscopic, meaning it attracts moisture, so sitting is really bad on brakes. If you're lucky, you may get by with just flushing a quart of fluid through the system. If not so lucky then it could mean much more needs to be replaced. Another 50K mile survivor GLHT I bought I had to replace everything except the hard lines and the brake booster on that car. I thought how bad can it be? Well, as it turned out, pretty bad! Cooling system and pretty much all fluids should also be changed out. Again use no stop leak, flush, etc. There is no such thing as a miracle in a can that can undo what the past 18+ years of non-use may have done to this vehicle.
Here is a couple photos for you to look at.
If you need any help posting pictures, send me a private mail and I can either walk you through that, or I can post them for you.
    Regards,
    Todd
