    86 GLH-S Starter + heat shield (+ maybe engine wiring harness)

    Hey Guys,

    I am looking for a decent condition 1986 GLH-S starter + the heat shield. The starter and heat shield on mine are not the OE parts and I keep cooking the wires going to the starter so I want to do it right this time.

    Bonus, if anyone has an entire wiring harness that would also be welcomed even if not installed immediately.

    Perfect! One part down. As for the starter, I keep finding the same sketchy one listed everwhere. Anyone have any experience with these and/or know if they are the right size for sure?

    I bought the Remy starter from RA for my old 87 New Yorker turbo last year and have since moved it to my DD 88 shelby z. I am really impressed with its crisp starts, and sound(hard to explain).

    You might have to drill out the treads in the transmission (the one on top against the block, that sucks getting to), threads are in the starter, bolt goes in other way. Much easier

    If melting stuff is becoming a problem you could always go to the Denso style starter.

    Denso starter

    The connections are on the side, nearly at the bottom vs the Bosch unit where they are right on top of the solenoid.

    Bosch starter

    The downfall of the Denso unit is they are not made new anymore. A previously used (reman) is the only option and the quality can range from OK to complete trash. The Bosch units can be had new, probably from a third world source but not a used up worn out core that has been 'remaned' a dozen times before you receive it.

    I would prefer to not drill the trans if I can avoid it. Do all of the RA starters require that? or is that just for ease of instillation over the stock stud?

    I think the only reason im melting stuff is because the car didnt have the heat shield when I got it and then the shop I took it to lied to me (on a few things) and didnt install one when they said they did. If the bosch is better move in general though, I'm happy to go that way. Starting when I turn the key is a fair bit more important than every possible number matching...

    No, not all are like that, its just the type I prefer, no struggling to get that top bolt in and out.
