1985 T1 AIS motor.

It's been a very long time since I've seen one but I'm wondering if the ais for a log style
throttle body can be used in a 87 up T1 throttle body. On my engine test stand I'm using the later style intake which uses the four wire stepper style ais and an 1985 T1 LM, so I'm pretty sure idle air isn't being controlled. If the 85 ais will work I can use a different plug with the same wiring convention.

Simple answer, no, they do not interchange.

As far as I know all logs to 87 use the DC motor based AIS. 88 and up used the newer pintle style stepper motor AIS. The exception that I am aware of are the 87 TII or Shelby. The 87 LM can control both styles depending on installed tune

Miles, I knew about the motor difference and was hoping the "85" would be a bolt in. I've got an "87" TII LM but I've been trying to avoid using it because of the possibility it could be damaged. The 2.2 on the stand runs fine but shows some rich mixture on tipping in the throttle. It will likely be ok for the purpose of breaking in fresh rebuilt engine pre-install.

Any 87 T1 can be chipped to a TII

Jeff, I would like to have a test engine for testing ECUs etc. What do you use the test engine for, if I may ask?

Hello Miles, I built it kinda as a project just to see if I could do it and as a way to start and run in an engine before installing it in a car to verify engine operation, do 20 minutes of break in, and avoid having to go through engine removal to fix leaks or avoid other startup pitfalls. The engine I used is the original 2.2 from my "85" Charger.

The very first 1985 Engine I intercooled I hogged out the later AIS and epoxied the 85 one in it.

I'm electronically inept so I had to try something simple and it worked out fine!!

The later ones I didn't hook up the AIS and set the idle speed manually.

Otherwise, I do good work !!

Yupp, my bad. I mixed you and Chromeguy up in my mind. Confusion is a sign of old age. Lol. An update. Yesterday I added a couple of wires to the red and blue plugs. I also added an external 2 bar map which allowed me to use the TII ecm I have. This fixed the rich mixture.
