Anyone know what the Blue/Tan wire along the firewall is for.
Could it be Tan/Blue??

Randy I'm not seeing anything blue with tan on 88 FSM. I actually peeked inside a s-60 harness I have at the back of the firewall and didn't see anything there either.
Is it a dark blue, light/bright blue, thin gauge or heavy gauge wire? Maybe a pic and exactly where it is on the harness would help?
I'm seeing blue with orange, but not tan with blue or blue with tan.
Frustrating part on the FSM's is many times they denote a tracer with an asterisk * but don't denote what the tracer color it is! That isn't too helpful...

I appreciate the input and checking the FSM!!
While wiring in a 4 wire o2 I noticed this blue with tan wire.
It's about 1/2 way across the firewall within the wiring bundle.
It just stops, not caped at all so Ill have a closer look and a picture.
I removed all my 4 level boost stuff but it was self contained over the M/C.
It didn't go through the main harness but maybe I did something way back??
Progress is slow but steady, I'm anxiously awaiting a test drive!

I'm gonna say that is dark blue with orange tracer.
C13 A/C clutch comes to mind, the other time I see that color mentioned is for a power steering pressure switch. Don't think an L body was that fancily equipped though.

It looks tan in real life but orange in the pic.
I'll check the A/C for clutch wiring, it would be nice to solve this.
It's a few years since I took it apart and I forgot about the A/C.

I had another look today and the A/C plug is in place near the distributor.
Couldn't see the colors, it's half moon matches the compressor plug.
I pulled the blue/tan back through the wiring bundle for a closer look.
Without any extra light this time and it sure looks like blue/tan to me.
I checked the SMEC connector of a 1989 Turbo Mini and it has a blue/tan.
Hopefully the pictures are clear.

So, could it actually be "LB/RD* Power ground source from fuel rail bolt??
Could this a ground wire for the SMEC?? It seems to come from the SMEC.
Could the loose end have slipped out of a ground ring terminal?
Or maybe the connector for the injector harness?
I already have 2 good grounds at the fuel rail bolt.
Or, what about N13 DB/OR* A/C cutout (WOT) relay output??
Where does that one go?? From the SMEC to..??

In the original pics, I thought it almost looked light DB/what was probably a white tracer when new. I'm not so sure now though.
Randy the N-13 circuit is an easy one. Goes from 1-56 (SMEC connector) then supposedly through a diode (FSM says at rear of controller) and is single wire with no splices to A/C clutch relay on right fender well. The AC relay has two terminal blocks; a 3 way and a single wire.
Strangely, there looks to be a typo as FSM says it is d.blue w/orange but changes to d.blue w/red after coming out of diode. Like I said I think that is a typo. Wire sort of looks reddish orange to me (lol). This wire definitely does run along the back of the firewall. I also have a 88 TBI harness as well as my S-60 harness and the wire is there on both harnesses. It is a small gauge wire FSM says 20 gauge.

I'm slowly getting there but not all the way.
Do you mean the metal A/C relay that's beside the SMEC??
I don't think so as the wire runs towards the passengers side.
Maybe it has to double back to the above metal relay?
Or is there another relay on the pass side of the Engine compartment.
There is a pressure switch at the firewall with a 2 wire connector.
That one seems to be connected properly.
My A/C knowledge is weak, maybe you could link the relay for me.

Randy the AC relay is on the passenger side, so wire definitely runs across the firewall. Personally verified by me on both harnesses.
BTW the radiator fan relay is pretty much I believe the same relay, except it has a different mounting tab on it. Maybe that is what you were thinkin of?

My relays are all crammed on the drivers side.
Makes changing the battery or SMEC very tough.
I guess this is where my continued confusion must lie.
It was back in 1997 when I installed the S60 harness.
Maybe I moved something so I'll check it very closely??
Maybe I'm missing a relay, its not my nature to hack wiring.
I bought all the recommended Mopar relays and plugged it all together.
Maybe that blue/tan or whatever color was never hooked up??
My A/C always worked fine so it was never on my mind.
So now I have to try and figure out what to do.

If it would help, I have a couple s-60 harnesses and a 88 harness out of the car. I could shoot any picture you want. I could lay it out on the floor sort of in the location in the car.
LMK, how I can help you. I think on one harness (used) with 4 wire o2 mod done, I have most every pigtail labeled. I also have the schematic from MP in the instructions, plus the install instructions. Of course on the s-60 harness, you're going to have side marker light connectors on each side not used on 4 drs.
My 88 TBI harness is low mile (37k) with all the sensors and relays attached less the MAP (gave to my buddy).

With my condition I can't really make any sense of it.
If you could show the section where the A/C relay goes that would help.
I'm going to have to study my harness to see where I must have modified it.
It was only from wiring the heated o2 to my harness that I noticed the wire.
This has taken me over a week striping/ soldering the 4 wires one handed.
I just can't fathom how I got the A/C relay on the wrong side of the car.
It clips together with the starter relay on the left side shock tower stud.
Obviously it didn't switch its self so I must have done it back then.
Does your harness connect to a 1992 style epoxy ignition coil??

Hey Randy,
The first picture is of my 88 TBI Omni Harness. 37K miles on it. Showed you a picture of this to show you where the AC relay is located. This didn't move on the s-60 harness. If fact, the s-60 harness was loosely based on this harness and the necessary turbo wiring and mods were grafted in by MP. A good reference point anyway.
The next pics are are of the s-60 harness. Hopefully these are rotated properly. They looked fine when attaching, but sometimes they seem to rotate for no apparent reason. I'll send these to your email addy too. Probably easier to rotate if you need to. That single loose wire is one of the grounds for the 4 way 02 sensor I added. No smokin gun there I'm afraid.
I added the last s-60 wiring layout from instructions. I labeled these 20 years ago or more when I first picked up my first s-60 harness. Not sure if you have this schematic or not. They coincide numerically with the "hang on" s-60 instructions you mentioned you already have.
So in review the way MP wired it originally, you should have the ASD relay, plus the starter and fan relay on the left side (bolted together), and the AC relay on the right side (close to where the MAP and and baro, wastegate, and purge solenoids are).

Blue/tan wire up date:
I can't figure out where it comes from or is supposed to go.
A similar wire goes to the A/C WOT relay but it's present.
Continuity between the relay and I-56 is fine so it's ruled out.
I checked for continuity between the stray and all SMEC pins.
Nothing there or anywhere else that I was able to check.
Any further input is appreciated in case I missed something.
