Re: My short 1986 Omni Turbo project log

Finally, I got the brakes sorted out and the little Omni runs and drives just fine!!

I got tired of waiting for Tefon to come back but I got the hood installed anyways.

Two neighbors, one on each side of me, dropped by so they each lent me a hood hand.

The weather is terrible so I'm waiting for a break in it to drive the hr. to my exhaust friend.

He's planing on building me a full 3" mandrel bent system from down pipe to the back.

I have a new polished (Magna flow??) 3" in-out muffler on the shelf waiting for duty.

Luckily I have some M&S rated tires installed for the journey on these winter roads.

I sold my 225-50-15" performance tires a while back as they were close to expiring.

A Miata guy was happy to get them as he burns them up in a couple of weekends.

If anyone is still following along, please wish me luck in this weather!!

    Thanks
    Randy

    PS: Lets go Brandon !!!

Hey, good to hear it's on the road again, and glad someone was able to help with the hood installation. That Tefon guy is so unreliable, you could be waiting forever for him to come back.

I was only razzing you about the hood!!

I'm sure you're very reliable as I eavestroughed you on the phone with your wife.

She sounded great and and smart so there's no doubt she didn't marry Mr Unreliable!

    Thanks
    Randy

Re: My short 1986 Omni Turbo project log

I now have my full 3" mandrel bent exhaust !!

Added a crankcase evac port and a A/F monitor sensor bung as well.

It was worth the drive visiting with my old friend as well as getting the work done.

The man is an exhaust genius in my book snaking the pipe through the rear suspension !!

My little Omni is filthy from the roads, but like Arnie said in the movie Christine, $h!t wipes off.

    Thanks
    Randy

    Glad to hear Randy!
We're you able to get any pics while it was up in the air?
Sounds great though. Can't wait to hear how you like it once you can put some power to the ground, maybe like 6 months from now, when your winter is over! Lol!

Re: My short 1986 Omni Turbo project log

I appreciate the positive input guys!!

Now my Dad is in the hospital with severe abdominal pain.

Mom is doing reasonably well after her unfortunate car crash.

The DMV cancelled her license as her crash was the result of a stroke.

Her Dr. says she can re-apply in a few months but he may be placating her??

Fortunately, they live in a small city so taxi's are a reasonable way to get around.

I feel helpless living 3,000 miles away but would feel about the same living closer.

My sister lives just a few blocks away but she is also laid up with a broken ankle.

Thank God for a kind and able brother in law for all the helpful things he does!

Unfortunately, I didn't get any exhaust pics. this time due to circumstances.

The chassis was all muddy as my friend now lives on a gravel and dirt road.

His home is very beautiful and located on a picturesque lake front lot.

His shop is meager and his hoist only lifts the car less than 5 ft.

I banged my head on it every time I tried to have a look or help!

However, great work can be done in less than ideal surroundings.

He doesn't work commercially, he just did this as a favor.

My cost was only $150.00, parts and labor.

Defiantly a favor for a quality job.

    Thanks
    Randy

Re: My short 1986 Omni Turbo project log

    Appreciate the kind words!

The little car has continued to keep my spirits up since Feb. 22, 1986.

It's the only new car I ever bought for myself but my wife tends to get a new one every 10 yrs.

Until this year, her 2011 Chrysler 200 will probably be with her for a while now that she's retired.

Her previous car, a 2001 Sebring sedan, 2.7 still serves as a reliable backup with over 350 K!!

    Thanks
    Randy
