popping out of 1st won't go into 5th

    OK, 1983 465 trans in a turismo/Shelby clone. 2.2 NA

My son and I yanked the engine & trans (43k on it) to put in a clutch and re-seal & gasket it so it doesn't drip anymore. Got it back in / together and now it pops out of 1st unless you hold the shifter and it only grinds when you think you're in 5th.

I noticed that the engine is rocking front to back much more than before. You can really feel it in the shifter too. Inspection shows one of us did not tighten the front mount. Is there adjustment in the shift mechanism? I noticed a pinch bolt near the catalytic convertor on the shift tube. One of the plastic cups pops off the ball pretty easily - I drilled it and put a cotter pin through it to keep it on.

    Any help, thoughts, suggestions?

Update: followed FSM adjustment procedures - it was a little off but still no joy.

Realized afterwards we used some of the 525? brackets on the 465 - doesn't the 465 bracket mount to the car/K member? We transferred the trans mounted ones from the T1 driveline over to the 465. He's got to search the parts boxes for the other shifter brackets & links tomorrow.
