    sorry to hear that Randy
sounds like you need to send that ^ to the local office in charge of issuing mechanics licences.. along with the complaint he let an unsafe car drive away from his shop after refusing to "finish" the needed work..

when his attitude puts public safety at risk .. he's not needed by the community..

Re: 1988 K-car style LeBaron sedan rear wheel cylinder questions.

    Up date!!

My local reliable parts guy searched for hoses but came up empty.

I checked a couple of online sources and all said no stock available.

I got my guy to order the cylinders anyway just to save on shipping.

Then, I ordered the hoses from Rock auto in hopes they arrive Tuesday.

A few minutes ago I got a message from my parts guy:

""Got hoses, will be here tomorrow with wheel cylinders"" !!

I guess I'll have a couple of extra hoses that hopefully I never need!!

    Thanks
    Randy

Need to be somewhat careful buying up super old stock. I've had that happen with other products too. Just because they're new old stock, doesn't mean they're good as new (lol).

Appreciate the kind words Johnny but I'm not the reporting type.

The mechanic is a long time acquaintance who misjudged things.

Once the car is back on the road I'm going to have coffee with him.

Hopefully he will get his head on straight, he's normally competent.

A few guys I asked wouldn't even consider working on drum brakes!!

It's a strange world now, I've done things I didn't get paid for.

Sometimes jobs get complicated but I try to be fair.

My friend Spiro told me about this book below.

The author explains self worth nicely.

Did I mention I love to read

    Thanks

Wink Re: 1988 K-car style LeBaron sedan rear wheel cylinder questions.

Saturday was what I would call successful in a one handed way.

I got the flex hoses attached to the main steel line and clipped to their brackets.

From there I formed the steel lines from the flex hoses to the brake wheel cylinders.

Steel lines attached to the lower trailing axle arms and pointing to the wheel cyls.

Finally, I'll connect the steel lines to the wheel cylinders and assemble the shoes.

With the drums installed and adjusted I should be able to bleed the system!!

Tomorrow should be the final day in my LeBaron brake saga, if no more issues.

For Todd, the flex hoses were dated 1999 and 2,000 but not yet gooey.

Hopefully you can assist with info on installing brake adjusting hole plugs

    Thanks
    Randy

Took Sunday off and finished the brakes today.

Will await Todds instructions on installing the brake adjuster hole plug

    Thanks

Sorry Randy, not getting any update notifications again, so I just stumble onto these threads. Glad to hear your making good progress. Brake adjuster hole plug, the rubber plug? They can be a little tough to get into place sometimes, but just start one end and press into place. Maybe use a small flat blade screwdriver on the inside to help it get started in the hole. If that plug appears too big for the hole, might try some synthetic brake lube on it. What trouble are you experiencing?

Sorry Todd, that was my sorry attempt at humor!

It was in response to your response to my original dopey question.

Do K cars have brake adjusting holes??

    Thanks
    Randy

    PS: Braking is now excellent!!

I kind of thought it was, but didn't want to have you sitting by your PC waiting for me to answer (lol). That actually was my first thought, oh Randy is being funny.

That's great to hear Randy. Brakes can be a real pain when iron oxide is involved. Glad you didn't have too rough a go of it.

Re: 1988 K-car style LeBaron sedan rear wheel cylinder questions.

Not too rough of a go !!!

It was the "roughest go" I've had in many years LOL

Almost as rough as the tine I dropped a cyl head on my pecker

Now that was a "rough go" I forgot about until thinking of "rough go's"

Don't tell Todd I asked but what does REO stand for in his post??

The only REO I know is Ransom Eli Olds as in cars and trucks.

And 50 cc accelerator pumps (REO) for Holley carbs.

    Anyone get that connection??

    Only old timers will.

    Thanks
    Randy

Happened around 1987 and I couldn't think about or talk about it for years.

    Still gives me the creeps.

    Thanks
    Randy

Re: 1988 K-car style LeBaron sedan rear wheel cylinder questions.

I've dropped both a tranny and a bare block on my stomach in the past. Both hurt! The tranny was at a self service car wash down in San Antonio. Had the floor all soaped up and my feet went right out from under me when I was approaching the hatch of my Shelby Z. Hand slipped off edge and cut three fingers right down to the bone. Blood everywhere. The degreaser felt good in deep wounds. That was a trip to the hospital. Took like 35 stitches to close up fingers.
The engine block. Caught my heal going down the stairs while I was holding onto my Masi bare block, and instead of dropping the block, I tried to save the stairwell and put myself under it. One of the tranny ears went pretty far into stomach area. I was concerned I might of had some internal bleeding, but just came out of it with a horrendous bruise. Reluctantly went to Dr. the next day. Told me don't do that again... Yah think?

I've injured myself here and there working on cars. I'm now infinitely more thankful for my health and safety in the processes of doing so. Thanks for the perspective guys.

    lol
    "ditto" on that comment ^

    got a long list..

took two tries to learn not to use a handfile as a pry bar.. both times the file broke.. both times a little shard bounced off my eyeball

utility knives are my curse .. stanley knife with the little triangle of blade .. stuck one in my hand ..all the way in between the base of my thumb and index finger
again , later I stuck another between the tendons of my wrist ..with a nice slashing motion..trimming the 3/4 inch off the back edge of a shelby airdam to make it fit a 4 lamp turismo/charger nose..
and I split a thumb .. right down the middle from tip to the base of the nail..I could wiggle the two sides in different directions .. buddy in english class almost lost his cookies when I showed him that trick..
almost slashed off half a pinky putting the airdam on an 87 shelby z.. some daytona fenders have saw teeth on the lower front edge .. ratchet slipped .. didn't notice till the blood ran down my arm
few days .. finger taped tp a popsicle stick...all good but I can still feel the notch in the bone whenever I think of it

had a tilt open steel garage door.. stood up under it when halfway closed..getting up from working under my buddies gremlin.. knocked myself the bleep out..
did it again ducking under the half closed door going out to meet a friend in the driveway .. caught the corner of the C channel that ran along the bottom of the door
buddy said he could hear my hair catch the door
I said no,, that was my scalp ripping ..to the bone..THAT one got stitches i blead like a stuck pig but buddy was cool with it ..
he watched his wife give birth earlier that day so no biggie I guess

one thing I ALWAYS do make sure to do when working under a car on stands..I slide a couple of wheels under it someplace .. just in case ..
remember .. the most dangerous thing you can do...IS working alone..
