    88/89 SMEC interchangability.

The MiniMopar site explains that the 88 and 89 smec's aren't interchangable because they are not the same. Does this mean an 89 cannot be used to convert an lm car to 89 smec?

They're interchangeable, but you might have to add a charge temp sensor and of course, make sure you've got the right displacement. Regardless, you're a person who rolls his own cals, so none of this will effect you. The hardware is the same.

1988 code was different from 1989 code. Both will work in either year car.

    Re: 88/89 SMEC interchangability.

I've swapped them many times with no issues.

    Even a 1988 2.2 T-I SMEC runs a 1989 2.5 T-I Engine fine for me.

    I use +20 injectors with a T-II SMEC on a 2.5 T-I Engine

I always run manual boost control.

    Thanks
    Randy

There is no logical reason to call an Engine a motor.

I actually have one of each which begged the question. Thanks Randy.
