    Fuel pressure gauge placement

I was looking at a pressure gauge from Grainger supply to mount underhood to help with dialing in fuel pressure. It occurred to me however that if I mount it in-line between the pump and the rail all I am going to see is the output of the pump right? The number shown with it mounted in line would never change no matter what I set the regulator at correct? The only way I can gauge the fuel pressure is from the schrader valve on the rail? Can I permanently mount a gauge on top to the schrader valve? It sounds like a fire hazard to me, comments? Am I wrong in my assumption that a change at the pressure regulator will not affect a guage mounted in-line between the pump and the rail?

well, anywhere between the pump and the regulator should be close. Ideally you want it right before the rail, or on the rail so your dont have to worry about any line loses upstream. Lots of people put a gauge right on the regulator pressure side, because there is an extra port, and this is usually close to the rail.

Just dont put it after the regulator (return line) or you will be WAY off!!

No, you are mistaken. Mounting it in-line between the pump and the rail will show you the system pressure (rail pressure) minus any pressure drops between the gauge and the rail, which is normally close to zero.

Don't use the scrader fitting, the fuel rail is very thin and weak, you will crack it. I teed off the fuel line with a brass Tee and hooked my fuel guage in that way.

    Re: Fuel pressure gauge placement

So adjusting the AFPR will show a change on the gauge mounted right before the rail in the pressure line? great! Will this gauge work well for the task? Just screw it to a 1/4 T and two 1/4 hose fittings and its done!

Anyone have a pic of how they mounted it and stuff? Keep in mind I am using the on-rail AFPR.

yup, and Im guessing that gauge will probably be ok. You might want to call grainger and check that its compatible with gasoline.
