    Car confusion

Hi all I am in need of some help

So this rag tag 90 Daytona I bought from a scumbag Is a project so since I bought it I found it was a swapped v6 car with a 2.2/a568
Combo running off a vnt ecm. Car had really bad exhaust manifold leaks but I got to run pretty well so I pulled the head to redo all the gaskets upgrade turbo bought “+ 40s” sent the ecm out to so I can do custom tunes and other supporting mods.
Well I was curious and checked the stamps on the back side of the block the year stamped is 88 the numbers referenced from the other forum say it’s an 89 2.5 block so now I’m really confused how the car was running so decent with a 2.2’computer I’ve seen that it’s not good and runs lean but everything seemed ok maybe a little rich. I think maybe previous owner just took what he wanted and threw stuff on this thing to make it run but it is t-2 swapped. So questions how do I verify for sure this is a 2.5 and if it is one can I do 2.5 tunes on a 2.2 ecm ?

You can check the length of the stroke, or you can look at the crank. I generally measure a screwdriver at BDC vs. a known engine to double check.

You can absolutely burn a cal for any combination you might have on a given turbo ECU.

Okay so I could barely make out the stamp on the block above the transmission it took me a while but it’s an 89 2.2 I got misinformation from the other site

That's good. I would double check to make sure it's still a 2.2. Do you have a WBO2 for the car yet?

It’s on the list lol my goal is to be around 300 on a hx35 or he351 haven’t found a decent one yet but I think the 500cc injectors will handle that fine I’ll do start up/ heat cycle stock tune injectors and low boost until I feel brave enough to get the tune rolling I’ve been messing around with a turbonator tune in mp tune a little but I’m new to tuning

The a568 also says 89 on its tag so makes me feel better that they were probably donated together

What are you going to do with the car? For a 300HP goal, I would be very tempted to find a S60 turbo and be done with it. 300WHP is pushing the S60, but not super hard. The response and ease of install will trump about anything that would make the extra HP worth it in my opinion.

    Re: Car confusion

The parts for sale and parts needed section of this website has been kind to me. You could try ebay, but I haven't seen a Super 60 on there for awhile.

Cindy at FWDPerformance is wonderful. IF she can't help you personally, Cindy will find someone who can.

And another thing: This forum has incredible people with insane amounts of knowledge. Listen to them and trust them. I'm relatively new to the Turbo-Mopar scene and would be completely lost without these guys and gals.

    Re: Car confusion

I like the idea of simplicity but I’m also not afraid of a little fab work I was looking into twisted motion turbos dsm guys use
Them they are knock off Garrett’s and I’d have to use an Nissan 5 bolt v band down pipe and the turbos are t-4 so I’d have to drill the mani but the prices are decent and the turbos seem legit I have only seen 1 super 60 for sale and it was gone pretty quick I almost wanna go a little over kill so if I wanna turn it up I can in the future I think I have enough fuel to go further. I love this community very helpful

I think I saw your thread on the other site and am curious as what misinformation you got??

Both sites try very hard to provide good info.

    Thanks

    Re: Car confusion

block casting date is found right above the oil pan rail , just below the power steering pump .. you'll prob have to look for it from under the car

an 89 568 trans tag should have a mfg date that reflects the change over date .. late spring 89 or after .. a buddy tried to order a new 89 in may or june but no new orders were being accepted at that time

I ran an 87 shelby z for two years .. with the o-e logic module for the TII motor .. but it had a brand new from cryco 2.5 turbo motor swapped in.. ran fine ..until a valve/ lifter failure of some sort .. then the ex valve broke a chunk outta the #3 poison right below the valve
bought in '96 .. so no a/f gauge

agreed the 2.2 LM isn't great for a 2.5 but alarmist posts like the one I read on TD years ago .."don't even start it""...two years I drove mine .. so lol to that

my motor spit out a cam follower .. as it went out of position the valve hung open or open MORE and the piston met the valve .. hard enough to crack the piston along the radius of the lowest part of the valve face .. engine showed no signs of lean issues in any cylinder

clamping the lifter to the bench vice I couldn't push the top down .. it wouldn't even move when smacked with a hammer .. in several attempts , each a little harder smack
..lifter was absolutely solid and locked up

Just my own ignorance not seeing that this number was listed for
    Both 2.2 and 2.5 and i didn’t
notice it under 2.2 kinda had
    Me confused because
The engine wasn’t original to the car

I was on the other forum when I was trying
To figure out initial problems which you helped me with a lot I just couldn’t find proof if
This block was a 2.2 or a 2.5 but found some old info about the stamping in the back of block over trans and it’s hard to see it but I made out 9T2.2lpc

I did see that post actually haha but
    I’m sure 99% sure it’s a 2.2

    Re: Car confusion

    It's the crankshaft that determines if it's a 2.2 or 2.5.

From 1989 on the blocks can be interchangeable.

As mentioned, measure the piston travel from BDC to TDC

    A 2.5 will measure a bit over 4 inches, (4.09")

    A 2.2 piston travels closer to 3.5 inches (3.64")

Try and keep questions short and precise if possible.

Old jokers like me find it hard to follow rambling posts.

I'm not saying you're rambling, it's an in general request.

As Johnny rambled, there are times when 2.2/2.5 electronics are compatible.

Like everything in life, it depends on the combination.

    Thanks
    Randy

If you have the head off, the 2.2 and 2.5 pistons actually look different. But still easier to measure.

Dont push the red button. You hear me?
