88 T1 Lebaron fuel issue, ie no fuel

OK so car is an 88 T1 Lebaron with a Mopar Performance SMEC.

Car cranks but has no fuel pressure. I can't hear the pump try to prime at all, so I confirmed with a fuel pressure gauge. No pressure at all, even when cranking.

So first thing I did was jump power to the positive side of the coil, still no fuel pump noise, and no fuel pressure.

Then I got under the car and unplugged the pump to check the wiring. I've got continuity to the ground, but I never get +12 volts to the wires when I jump the positive side of the coil.

If I can't get 12 volts to the plug when jumping 12 volts to the coil, what could I be missing?

    thanks,
    Clay

Did you try jumpering the Fuel Pump relay?

I think you're dead on Clay. If you jump the coil and don't get power at the pump, you have a wiring problem in the Z1 circuit somewhere. That's a fun one for sure.

Ugh. I was hoping you were going to respond with something obvious I missed. What ever it is was intermittent the last couple of times the car was driven as it was hard to start, and not it just will not start. Fun fun! thanks!!

Yep. I'm sure you know there are quite a few splices under the hood and that it runs through the firewall, through the car, all the way back to the tank. Green with black tracer. I don't have my diagrams in front of me, but I would think it's one of the fusible links. I would probably start there.

Re: 88 T1 Lebaron fuel issue, ie no fuel

Ok thanks for the help everyone. I went through everything again today, and it turns out I must not have been using a very good ground to check voltage at the plug. I ran a jumper up to the engine block and once I did that I do actually have 12 volts everywhere I'm suppose to, and when I'm suppose to! SO it looks like the pump is bad. It's not that old and I could read the sticker on it "Airtex E7069H". Turns out that's not the correct pump for this car, so that could be part of the issue. Anyway, what are your recommendations for a new pump? I don't really need a walbro because this is just a cruiser.

I would price shop the different combinations. There were times in the past when it was cheaper to buy the Walbro from one of our vendors than to go with whatever replacement pump was available from parts stores.

That's more than worth it just for the hanger assy. Nice score Clay.

Anyone wanting what I think is an awesome deal on a fuel pump assembly, act now! I bought one of these last week and installed it Tuesday. Super nice NOS part, sealed in the factory box. Worked perfect! Right now they are 25% off, so like $44 shipped. https://www.ebay.com/itm/223572530048

Thanks Clay. I ordered one up for a spare. The price is well worth it just for the hanger in my opinion.

This is concerning. Why couldn't you find a decent ground by the pump? The pump itself should have a good ground. If it doesn't, then that is a problem...
