What about the stock tunes, should I take the diodes off the 2 bars as well?

The only substitute for cubic inches is cubic dollars, how fast can you afford to go?
i watched the video you sent me. no idea what is doing that.
take all map sensor diodes off.
what other things have you done?
the wiring can be totally stock and all mods can be done in the cal.

Update!
Mike E. from Dairyland chapter stopped by my place unexpectedly a couple day ago. He listened to my problem and identified it as the engine backfiring through the exhaust. This happens because a late spark event fires the plug when the exhaust valve is still open. The late spark can be caused by a bad plug, a bad plug wire, a weak response from the coil or bad distributor cap. He mentioned that closing the gap between the spark plug wire blades and the tip of the rotor can result in more consistent coil operation. I went and got a new cap and installed the wires. Then I took a needle nose and reformed the blades to closer than 1/16 in. Testing showed fewer occasions of this backfire a nearly consistent accelerations without any backfire.
I also ran a mpscan today that showed zero retard until about 4600 rpm when all four cylinders showed various degrees of retard at the exact same time, 4600 rpm.

Sounds promising

Now if I can just figure out why it retards all four cylinders simultaneously, for about a half second.

are you retarding the timing too much in the cal at 4600?

Miles, I have positively identified and resolved the backfire problem. It was caused by a hose that was not secure enough at the map solenoid. I made a more secure connections and tested. The engine revs right through to 6K rpm withou any problems. Its embarrassing to admit this but others can benefit from my error of having just one vacuum line leak. Live and learn.
Again. Thanks to all who offered help and advice.

Glad to hear you have that sorted out. I don't think there are many people out there who haven't had some sort of vacuum related problem at one time or another.
