    88/89 smec

What is the difference between 1988 and 1989 SMEC. is the 89 not batch fire. Are the wiring colors different?
    thanks

    Re: 88/89 smec

    1988-1989 are both batch fire.

All I know is they are interchangeable fit and working wise.

    I've interchanged 2.2 1988 T-I with 1989 2.5 T-I, no noticeable difference.

    1988-89 2.2 T-II interchange fine but aren't bolt on satisfactory on a 2.5 T

    Thanks
    Randy

Thank you Randy. What does "not bolt on satisfactory" refer to?

I believe he meant you wouldn't get good results if you tried to run a 2.5 engine with a 2.2TII computer.

Is there some background of what you want to do that brought you to your initial question?

I have an opportunity to possibly pick up an 88 or 89 TII smec so I wanted to know if this would be an improvement.
    Thanks

Right, the injector pulse width is too narrow to run a 2.5-T on a T-II SMEC safely.

It physically fits fine but isn't safe under boost without larger injectors. EG: +20's

    Thanks
    Randy

I guess that would depend on what you currently have... but there's nothing wrong with having spares. Besides, you can put any calibration you want on it with the tuning solutions out there.

Jeff for your application, since you will be using a custom calibration, either 88 or 89 SMEC will work fine. I don't know about the wiring colors differences.

Thanks to all. As Jpcturbo knows, (I think) I have plus 40's but Dan is right. I would be installing a zero insertion force socket which makes things easier to change from chips to ribbon cable and back for tuning.
