L body door pins and bushings

The drivers door on my 87 needs new bushings and pins, it drops a bit when opened. Where can I buy a kit to repair it? I'm assuming the local auto parts store won't have them, but I haven't checked...

L Body car door hinges don't have bushings. Only a roll pin. The hinges are welded to the door and pillar post. Check to see if he weld has broke.

Well that explains why I couldn't find them. I'll check it tomorrow. Thank you for the help.

I normally eliminate door sag by adjusting the hinges with a ball peen hammer.

Not by hammering or pounding as there is an approved procedure.

Does your door fit the door opening properly??

    Thanks
    Randy

Gee, Randy, that is the same way the K body doors adjust, the hard part is finding the springs that hold them open.

Re: L body door pins and bushings

I never used any springs as a ball peen fits nicely in any doors I've adjusted.

Wait, you mean the springs that fall out of the hinges.

My old brain is getting slow!!

    Thanks
    Randy

The left door on the convertible was low enough at the back it was nearly impossible to close. I took the upper pin out with the door supported and used a large drift and BFH to adjust it. The only issue now is it is slightly twisted so the upper rear corner is not in alignment with the quarter panel, not much, maybe 3/8" out.

I'd be too scared of hitting my thumb wielding a BFH like that!!

    Thanks

    Randy,
The door fits in the opening properly, but when you open it, it drops off the striker about 1/8" or so. When you grab the rear of the door you can rock it up and down a tad. It isn't really bad, but it isn't right either. I know I can lower the striker, but that won't fix the problem, and I don't want it to get any worse. Can you explain the adjustment procedure that you use with the ball peen hammer?

Only if you can find a junk car to practice on first, doesn't have to be an Omni.

There have been several posts on this over the years.

Nay sayers tend to nay say and I'm too old to argue.

Every person who practiced on an old car was delighted with their success.

It's nothing magic but for some reason folks find it's hard to comprehend.

One guy was so proud his chest puffed up so much he needed a new shirt!

If you do find a junker pm your phone # and I'll talk you through it.

    Thanks
    Randy

L body used an early vs late door hinge pin

with an 87 you'll need ""late"

don't try bending the hinge to correct drop when opening the door

IF the pin is worn replace the pin.. simple

    except for the lower hinge
as you pound the pin down and out it WILL hit the bottom edge of the door so you'll need to cut the pin shorter as it starts to come out

I need 2, but I'd take 4 if you can spare them.
