    injector cooling

As part of my ECU research I want to test real injectors, low and high impedance on the bench in my electronic lab.
My concern is how to cool them as I don't want to aspirate gasoline vapours into the house.
Would compressed air running through the injector dissipate enough heat? Or would I need to switch to water?
    Ideas are welcome

You mean run compressed air through the injectors?

If you don't have a decent water separator, I would think that using water would be just as good as the compressed air. I guess it depends on how long you run them for though. I don't think the cooling would be as good, but that would depend on the pressure differential I guess.

    Re: injector cooling

Do injectors really flow enough fuel for the fuel to act as a cooling agent? I would feel that vaporlock really starts at the high mass injector rather than the rail.

Miles, back when my shop was a Holley carburetor service center and warehouse, the Holley rep told me they used Stoddard Solvent as it's flow characteristics were very similar to gasoline but not as flammable. Kerosine might work too. Whatever you do, come up with a safe collection system and a way to get the fumes from the spray safely collected and contained or vented to the outside. I would not use water as the injectors are not real happy with it.

I would also suggest that rather then using a pump, use a suitable reservoir with a regulated compressed air supply so you can vary the pressure if needed. (too damn many years working in a laboratory doing strange tests for engineers)

Thank Bill, yes I agree that mineral spirits should be good enough, I believe the injector rebuilder use this as well.

    Re: injector cooling

Let me know how it works and if you need some assorted injectors to play with.

+1 on hearing that mineral spirits is good easy safe alternative on injector testing
