    FTDI adapter help

So I got a few things assembled, and am having issues connecting with either MPTune or MPScan. Went through the whole setup instructions, com test works, have all the FTDI settings correct. When trying to read chip in MPTune, I get no bites received, occasionally I get 3 bites, a couple times I got 83 bites. MPScan just says unable to connect

I'm not using a cable, I found this little adapter board by inland, it's an actual FTDI brand chip and it plugs straight into the sci adapter. At 8 bucks it's dirt cheap and it allows you to combine the adapter s together into one piece so no special cables needed.

If we can get this thing to work I think it's the ideal setup

    Re: FTDI adapter help

Are you trying it just as shown in the pic?
Looks like it is set to 3.3V but the only working FTDI cables are the 5V ones.
Also looks like you are missing the ground terminal on your SCI adapter board?
Is that the BoostButton SCI adapter PCB? 2013 Rev3?
And you are connecting a standard USB data cable from your computer to this, correct?

Ah Ha! Ok that makes a lot more sense, thought standard ttl was 3.3 volts, I need to flip the switch. The extra terminal labeled "B" needs to be connected to ground?

On the SCI board, Ground was on the end of the connector.
A better pic directly over your FTDI adapter might help.

The "Bt" pin on the SCI board is only needed for flashing a flashable SBEC.

You don't actually need the resistor or diode on that board unless you are flashing a SBEC. (Though the pads would need to be jumped if no resistor)

Something that I've actually overlooked before were my com settings and baud settings changing in the program then causing similar errors.

    Re: FTDI adapter help

got around to messing with it again today. double checked all the settings in the tfdi adapeter and device manager settings, flipped the switch to the 5v mode.
no change. still unable to connect in either MPtune or MPscan. mp scan just says unable to open port

The only other thing I can think of at the moment is be sure you are using a USB cable that can handle data. Some micro USB are just charging.
    Although most do handle data.

    Re: FTDI adapter help

Do you have a new com port in device manager?
Did you configure this as the active port in MPTune?
    Just want to be sure...
Wowzer also mentioned if you inverted the Tx Rx in the setup??

    Re: FTDI adapter help

Copied from the Micro Center website. I do not know if what is said about the DTR pin on this board would make a difference.

This is a basic breakout board for the FTDI FT232RL USB to serial IC. The pin out of this board matches the FTDI cable to work with official Arduino and cloned 5V Arduino boards. The major difference with this board is that it brings out the DTR pin as opposed to the RTS pin of the FTDI cable. The DTR pin allows an Arduino target to auto-reset when a new Sketch is downloaded.

The correct cable to use is the one at the top of the list correct?

New cable arrived, programmed it and almost identical results. tried the read chip routine, got 83 bites the first couple tries, then 3 now nothing. Still unable to connect in mp scan, just says unable to open port each time. did the loop test, got it works.
    im pretty lost here..

Do you have a DRBII? I wonder if there is some issue with your diagnostic connector?

Need to re-read all of this and see if I can think of anything.

Well that should rule out a diagnostic connector problem.

If you have a log profile setup in MPScan, can you post up the ecu.txt file? There should be a txt file made with some troubleshooting info for Morris. That might help see what is going on.
He has that for using the mpscilink and mpscandroid, I assume it is there for MPScan also.

    Re: FTDI adapter help

Ok, I don't see where some of this is mentioned,
    What version:
    Windows?
    MPScan?

    What ECU do you have?
Is is stock or BoostButton flashable, or socketed, or ostrich?
