I cant find any transmission place that has the 3.05 ring and pinion I need so I will be checking scrap yards does anyone know an easy way to check if a vehicle has the parts without pulling the cover and counting gears?
1st gen Neons with the DOHC engine should have a 3.05 ring and pinion.

Kevin,
As mentioned earlier in another thread, the sales codes listed on the radiator tags third line (from bottom) will list what final drive and what transfer gears are in the transmission (lines 18-20). Life is too short to pull off a bunch of diff. and end plates to see what you've got.

I finally found a set of gears that will work. I found that the rings and pinions come with different grooves in the gears and only certain ones will fit together correctly. After ordering from 4 different transmission places I found that a 3 groove pinion or transfer shaft will match to a 1 groove ring gear and that a 0 groove pinion fit the 3 groove ring gear.
Strange that there's a tooth angle change...wonder why?
Has anyone made a retainer for the transfer gear nuts? Any photos?
