Looking for A413 transmission gear sets

Looking to get my gear ratio lower on my 89 lebaron with the A413 trans. Wondering if any one has or knows of a set of 53/56 xfer gears. And a 12bolt Ring&pinion 20/61

    Kevin,
Lower gears as in deeper or numerically? Most of the turbo trans were 2.86 (60/21) with 1.06 transfer gears for a 3.02 final drive. I have 2 or 3 working (but tired) turbo trans that should have this gearing. 3.05 (61/20) would be fairly unusual in a turbo trans. One trans is 85, another one is 89, another unknown condition one is 90 turbo that was lock up converter. That last one was supposedly rebuilt, but have no knowledge to confirm that. That one converter is missing too. Probably only looking to sell entire trans. If you have some .91 transfer gears (57/52), I might be interested in a partial trade. PM me if this is something your interested in pursuing. BTW, I'm in Bloomington, MN

Re: Looking for A413 transmission gear sets

I believe all of the xfer gears I have are .91. I am always looking for spare non lockup's I busted up 2 of them last season. Is that not the most common size? My transtar book shows a 1.06 option which is what I was thinking I would like to try. Also it shows the 3.05 as an option for the ring and pinion I want to get the gearing down as low as possible as I am only getting through about half of 3rd gear in the 1/4 mile I have been told there is a 1.22 xfer available but have not seen any.Attachment 64505Click image for larger version.

    Kevin,
You want to look for cars that have DMD or DME in the radiator tag for the 1.22 transfer gears. The .91 vehicles should have DLB or DLD, and the 1.06 vehicles should have DLE or DMC.
What I have found is most turbo cars have 2.86 R/P with 1.06 transfer gears for a final drive of 3.02/3.03 depending on how how you're rounding. The old VW 1.7 auto Omni's had 1.22 transfer gears, but require quite a bit of shims IIRC. Other vehicles also came with the 1.22 gearset. Maybe some minivans?
IMO, go too deep of gear and you'll have trouble hooking up if your making a bunch of HP/torque. 3.23 FD (3.05 w/1.06) or 3.49 FD (2.86 w/1.22) would be my choice if looking for strip only cars. You'll be running lots of RPM down the hwy. though. 3.05 with 1.22 transfer gear will be real deep at around 3.72 FD. Better have a tall tire if running that combo.

    Kevin,
I'll gladly trade you a set of 1.06 for your .91 anytime. Think I have some outside of tranny on shelf.

Doesnt get driven on street. Drag strip only, if I ever make it to one of the MNSDAC meets I will get with you about swapping some gears. I was able to pick up some 1.22 gears today on ebay NOS. They weren't there last night so feel kinda lucky. I am going to be running hoosier 26x8 slick this season so definitely needed to change gears.

I do have a question. I read on annother post that some of the 1.22 gears need to be machined to work anyone have any knowledge about this?

Kevin, As I recall, the 1.22 (404) pinion transfer gear needed to have a spacer behind it so as to line-up and mesh properly with the output shaft gear.
I do not remember how thick of spacer is require; something like .140?? I just don't remember.
someone here would probably know (should be in the trans. data base).
I don't know what overall gear ratio you are going for But just remember(all other things being equal) the deeper the gearing is (higher numerical number) the harder it will be to build boost on the line because the engine will have an easier time overcoming the brakes before the converter stalls.
I would say a good overall ratio for your setup would be 3:22-3:50, with the 26" slicks.
Also, there are some things you can do with trans. fluid to bump the stall rpm up or down 3-400rpm.
