    Re: Does it drift ?

ya know , for a long time I've wished I could see pics of how those cars are actually put together (were)

some specs , wheelbase , width length etc would be interesting to

I always thought a wrecked or incomplete counselor would be cool if it could be fitted with something like a reproduction lola T70 shell..

a factory five cobra daytona with a R/T 16 V motor and two shelby 16V valve covers might drift too...
    if that's your thing

I'll bet it would be close to a 50/50 weight bias without the smallblock ford and an iron trans case

with the shifter set up from the you consulier could add a 2.2 to a lister bell stratos and maybe end up with a car that's actually as good as the real stratos (lancia) or the consulier

or.. a really sweet little pick up truck...that could get 40 mpg - maybe

    Re: Does it drift ?

Maaaybe you could graft a "better looking" front end fascia on. With a reasonable effort. (like what Tavarish is doing on YT with the countach front on the SLC) The whole clamshell unibody thing is going to make anything more than that difficult. Not to mention IMO it'd be a waste to destroy the tiny frontal area and extreme chassis rigidity. That is the beauty of the car's design! People get hung up on cd # but frontal area matters more.

Myself, I don't mind the way the cars look. After month after month of wading through the seas of curvy monstrosities of modern 2019 design... the design looks better every passing year. I'm NOT going to lie and say its as pretty as a old GT40 BUT anyway... I think a few small tweaks could have made GTP look much more acceptable to the public. Things like blacked out headlight bucket area, which the old four eye camaro and other 4 light cars use. Or a 'euro' one piece rectangle headlight like the low rider guys run. Or a door with a little dip curved down into it. All simple stuff that doesn't require modifying the body.

If you think about the controversial styling of the GTP, its kind of like what happend because of the controversial 996 headlights.. its GREAT that people hate those runny egg 996 lights. Because it means there is actually hope I could get one of those 996's one day. I mean lets be honest.. Warren compromises on rigidity/aero/weight in 1985, we don't have a GTP section in this forum, basically. A cuter design GTP would be priced out of reach of us.

Originally based on the Porsche 914 wheelbase. Short wheelbase and wide. Its got more aero going on so more overhang front and back.

But there are better donor cars to chop up and customize... Steel is great for that. Composite unibody not so much.

    Re: Does it drift ?

    there's where the thinking differs

though it may not be common knowledge that every single lola T70 ever built was a fiberglass body car - even the sunoco -penske car that won lemans in '69

repop kit cars from the 70's came from the factory lola molds that are still in use today so essentially it would be a car sourced in a bucket vs a car sourced on the metal rack

every of my little ultimate projects above would be easy 100K cars I'm sure though the L-B Stratos is 45-65K as a complete car with a fiat motor or some such

    Re: Does it drift ?

Not saying you couldn't body mod a GTP. But its sandwich composite construction... Its bad enough working with single layer composite panels. Seems like an S&M kinda choice for a project like that. Not to mention the car's rarity.

Wiki has GTP at 100" wheelbase and a 72" wide body.

    Re: Does it drift ?

I only saw it as a way to save a wreck or use something that could never be completed as it looked like there was some unfinished stuff in that warehouse clear out

seeing some pics of these cars as they were being built up would be interesting as all I've seen is the cage that mounts the drivetrain to the car

The pic up there of the grey car drifting is 1991 Laguna. Just for kicks here's some pics of the blue car from 1992 miami.

    Miami 92 yellow.

Laguna 92 behind the Lotus and 911 turbos after the lead ballast was added I assume.

    Re: Does it drift ?

I give up. They must not have drifted often, can't find any other drift photos except that first one.

One last revs pic in the corkscrew..

One more... 1st year effort endurance car at Nelson leading a fox body. IIRC 88. This pic must be early in the race, later pics have the mirrors tweaked to unusable angles..

    Re: Does it drift ?

Other random GTP information... The owner of Pro Circuit drove the #20 race GTP in a 1991 race.. just found out last week by digging through some web searches. The 20 didn't seem to do as well as the 18 and 19.

Howdy Jacob, that photo caught my eye because it does not have the updated front wheel well pressure relief shape. Figured it must have been a very early car. The nose vent also caught my eye.. any idea what that is about?
