    Axle seals

    How does one remove the axles seals on an A413 transmission?

    A screw Driver worked for me just dont damage the housings.

    Yes, screwdriver or a chisel worked for me. I learned you don't try to stick the screwdriver in the hole and pop it out... Just hammer your tool of choice under the lip on the outside of the trans.

    My mechanic applies grease on the inside lip to hold the spring in place. It can pop out when you tap in the new seal. Grease holds it in place.

    Great trick.

    Also, dont' forget to remove the axle first, hehehehhe

    You will see a metal lip overhanging the housing, you want to carefully pry it in, do this in a few places and the seal will fall out with some prying. The drivers side one is a PITA because it sits in the housing, passenger side is gravy. I use a socket that fits and hammer it in.

    I also use some sealer on the out side of the seal,and +1 on the grease.

    Yeah, if you accidentally score-up the housing where the seal presses in, especially the aluminum one, a very light coat of RTV or Peramtex #2 will fill the gaps.
