    Main Bearings Ford Big Block????

So i have a car that I bought from a guy who said the engine was rebuilt. They used a felpro headgasket which promptly blew out and kept running it and trashed the bearings. I get in the bottom end and pull the bearings and stamped on the main bearings is the part number MS 2863P ..... Immediately caught my attention because the clevite bearings I've seen always are 1533P. So I looked up the part number. Comes up with Ford Big Block main bearing set... Does anyone know if they are the same thing as the chrysler bearings. It wouldn't be far fetched that a manufacture recycled an old part number and designed the crank around a set of pre-existing bearings but I can't find anything that says they cross or are interchangeable. The Main Journal diameter for the Fords seems to be 2.749 from what I can find online which is way bigger than ours are. Maybe just a misprint? Anyone have a set of bearings laying around they can check?

    no not a misprint ..lol..
429/460 look like 3 inch journals when you pull them apart

and felpro do a REALLY nice intake manifold for stock port 429/60

it's a valley pan style stamped steel gasket like a big block dodge one would be .. BUT the intake manifold areas are rubber coated , both sides

    I used one in my 255 v8 fairmont .. they're really nice .. they SEAL !!

and they keep the hot oil off the intake
    - summitt lists it

also ... BUY AN OIL PUMP DRIVE ROD

one of the nice race pieces
the OEM one goes in the garbage bin .. no questions..it's trash - it can strip leaving you with no oil pump
    - so yes it's worth the 100 bucks it's going to cost ya for a little hex shaped piece of hardened bar stock

if your rocker arm nuts start backing off and do it INSTANTLY when you snug 'em back down , the yellow Mcdonalds drinking straws fix that...forever..even in the McD's parking lot

Idono if the current ones will fit

76 truck motors got a one piece distributor cap which might help starts on wet days - ford absolutely sucked in the 70's with the two piece caps

oh and that big fat cast NODULAR 460 crank is 75 POUNDS and tuff e nuff to go 8.8 seconds in a door slamming 69 mustang

cylinder wall thickness is inconsistent too so a wise overbore is only +40
+60 MIGHT get you a motor you can never actually use

if you wanna upgrade heads THE ONLY ONES worth considering are the Trickflow track heat fast as cast heads.. with their required rocker arms..

these heads among all the many aftermarket options for 460 ARE the only heads that have the exhaust ports corrected in that they are raised 3/8 inch

stock port 460 track heat intake and heads have enough meat to cut the ports out to the super cobra jet port size - EASY

but as horsepower TV showed .. you don't need to port nothin for 600 hp

now THAT's a head that works

and... comparably , ford racing's current aftermarket offering for a 429/460 SCJ block is DIRT CHEEP at 2100 bucks

it's a heavily updated 4 bolt SCJ block
difference between 429 cj and scj is the mains among a few other things

holley street avenger 870 cfm vacuum secondary with electric choke , duel feed and big accel pump is what I had to go on the track heat heads and intake

it was going in a truck thus the vac secondaries

9 inch deep moroso flat bottom shoe box dragster pan fits 70's truck and the hooker super comps look like they belong in an old gasser
THAT motor was gonna be sweet..but I hadda move
    sigh

Damn, now you're getting into my territory. I am an admin on the 429/460 Ford group on FB. That's what is in my 1986 F350, one of that engine's strong points is the torque at relatively low RPM as it was originally for Lincoln's.

    lol
a buddy and I put a 71 merc 429 into his 81 dually - we did nothing besides a new holley carb
it had a dually style wrecker boom with sling and no 5 liter mustang EVER left the stoplight first when they pulled up alongside

oh the fun of youth ..

    Back on topic:

MS 1533P is the part number for the complete set.

2863P is the individual bearing number for 1-2-4 and 5 position

2864 P is the thrust bearing number

    Thanks
    Randy
