    HP Gain From K&N Filters?

What do you think I'll pick up vs. a regular filter such as this one?

In all seriousness, the K&N unit I have lying around had the foam piece off to the side disintegrate. What do you guys do when that happens? Buy a new one? Put a different piece of foam in there? I pulled the old piece of foam off of the crappy filter and put it in there next to where it draws the air on the air inlet side.

Stick a new piece of foam in there. Perhaps something from the lawn & garden section may be a decent fit. You'll gain all the horsepowers.

Re: HP Gain From K&N Filters?

of many K&N filters I looked at in the u-pick yards I only ever found two decent ones

all the others had air gaps where the folds in the paper USED to be . so million mille filter .. lol- funny but not

it's worth it to google this every month or so until you do find one though

NOTABLY better throttle response on my log motor back in the day

been discontinued since the mid/late ninetys

the only thing that can kill it is a mouse..it will not wear out ever
(and it can't get past the metal grid screening )

    - fits carb , log and TI/TII filter boxes

but "gain HP", either , no but this one WILL improve immediate response with a point and click throttle

like swapping from atf to motor oil I swear you ALL want one !!

if you wanna know beforehand what it will doo simply remove your existing filter , put the box together and go for a ride

you can literally blow air right through it by mouth without much resistance .. just some defusion

it took me 4-5 years to find the one below so keep trying !!!!!

yeah it might be worthy of being repoped by one of our vendors

you could even make one out of two grades of foam , the metal mesh and the rubber from one or two new sacrificed filters

I guess then you could make one to fit the later longer filter box to

maybe someone who makes bouncy rubber-ie bushings could mold the rubber around the edges for a proper part

K&N has a good warranty. Send them a message and they should send you a new one. I had one with a gasket rip before and contacted them and they sent me a new one

    I'll stick with paper filter.

if you live in a dust bowl I'd agree stay with the paper filter but I ran that accel filter daily (warm months) for six years in my turbo'ed turismo then ran it in my shelby z year round for two years followed by 3 more years in my turbo z ..

the only thing really to remember is you don't follow other cars on really dusty roads

We get a little dust here in the spring and fall, but nothing crazy. I avoid the fields being worked when possible anyway. This thing will see summer duty only, and quite frankly, given the number of miles I've achieved on engines with a cone filter, I'm not too afraid to run this free filter I had lying around. I will check with K&N about a replacement though.

My Norton came up with a smoking cylinder. Tear down revealed a narrow and shallow trench in one cylinder. Examined K&N filter and found an area where it appeared that a piece of stainless wire was missing, short piece. Years later was told that K&N would have paid for the rebuild. Effective product if you clean and oil it often. Failure to do so lets otherwise captured dirt migrate through as oil dries out.

    -- Alexis de Tocqueville

"One of the methods used by statists to destroy capitalism consists in establishing controls that tie a given industry hand and foot, making it unable to solve its problems, then declaring that freedom has failed and stronger controls are necessary."
    --Ayn Rand

"To evolve, you don't need a Constitution. All you need is a legislature and a ballot box . . . . things will evolve as much as you want. All of these changes can come about democratically; you don't need a Constitution to do that and it's not the function of a Constitution to do that."
