When you say you get nothing from the computer, what do you mean?
Does the car start? Are you simply not able to read codes?

Could possibly just be a bad "Power Loss" light bulb in the cluster if that is the way you are checking codes. You should still get the "55" even if nothing is wrong and bulb is good.

is it still a LM setup?

check and clean the red and blue connectors... especially if the plastic bag isnt on the LM anymore.

check power loss lamp , bulb first

put key in , turn to run

power loss lamp should stay lighted every time for 1-2 seconds for a bulb test at every start

if no power loss light then either the bulb is simply done or you have a problem to hunt

if you need to change the bulb then first removing the plastic covers from the steering column is the first thing to remember
3 or 4 screws, from below
this allows space to remove the cluster without scratching up the top half cover for the column

I'm not understanding any of this, another thing sometimes you turn the key on and the pump works, but nothing from the computer, usually everything is dead go figure!!

I'd try changing the bulb before I chase a problem that may not exist

if swapping a known working bulb already in the cluster then you should have the answer very quickly

and if the bulb's dead AND you have an issue you should also then get the codes once it's changed

a 33 year old light bulb deciding to "retire" I would not doubt for a second

sadly until you check the bulb it's self you don't know if you have a problem or not

and as I said start by removing the steering column covers - screws go up from the underside of it

that saves scratching up the top cover when you pull the cluster

black bulb socket twists out of circuit board , bulb then pulls out of the twist in socket base
(if you haven't been there before)

I mean nothing, normally the codes would flash, now i turn the key on and i get zero zilch nada I had taken a pin to check the tension on the computer terminals, some were loose so i changed those terminals, chk. again and they were ok i get tension as i slide the pin in and out, that tells me the connections are good chk the key again and nothing happens, so i figured i need to get a computer but i'm concerned it might not be the problem!!

Is your car Turbo I or Turbo II? Four wire TPS is usually Turbo II.
If it's Turbo II you would need a GLHS Logic Module.
There's also the posiblility it was converted to 1987 electronics.
