    Which TB to choose ?

I'm building a 2.5L TIII engine and look the required parts.
    Right now I have :
    - stage 3 TIII head (Lonewolf)
    - FWD adjustable cam gears
    - big plenum intake (opening for the TB is huge)
    - ported exhaust manifold
    - HE351 turbo
    - venolia forged pistons
    - 1080 spearco FMIC

Right now I'm looking for a TB.
Steven (IlikeShelby) wrote me to be careful about choosing the TB and use the stock one to keep everything compatible. However my setup will be quite custom, so here my question : what TB should I look for ?

BTW, Iwhat is the maximum TB size that is still compatible with TII "sensors" (AIS, TPS) ?
I know the 58mm is, anything bigger ?

Re: Which TB to choose ?

I have seen builds using ford or jeep T-B's

I know the ford one NEEDS an external idle speed motor housing and vac lines added

personally I've been thinking about the large aftermarket T-B's for the 2.4 neon SRT
(but you might want to find a used one ---new is VERY $pendy $pendy $pendy...)

    www.google.com/search?q=boomba+throttle+body+for+SRT+neon&hl=en-GB&sourceid=gd&rlz=1Q1GGLD_enCA728CA728
(last I saw this ^ was 450 bucks 6 months ago - price seems to have come down )

    OR,

    www.modernperformance.com/product/MPx_62mm_Throttle_Body_Spacer_03-05_Neon_SRT4/03-05-neon-srt-4-engine-throttle-body-and-intake-manifold

for the extra bucks I'd go with the boomba 70mm
the 62mm with only 4mm more than the factory one seems more like a waste of 265 bucks....

    Thanks a lot Johny
Are this aftermarket neon TB "plug n play" for the sensors ?
    Will a 58mm be enough ?

Price is now "only" $380 !
    https://www.tunergeeks.com/products-...throttle-body/

They are even selling a 75mm one which is compatible w/ a Mustang 5.0, that is good since IIRC the intake seller told me that the opening was designed for a Mustang TB

I don't know Harry, it will be for street use, I would like to beat those Audi TDI

You often write : fast, reliable and cheap choose between 2.
Cheap is unfortunately no more the case, but I want it reliable.

I forget to add that I aslo have FWD HB rods which should help for reliability.

Do the srt4 throttle bodies share the same bolt patterns as the t2 tb's?

Re: Which TB to choose ?

yes but not the spacing between the studs it would seem

46,52 and 58 tb mount has 75mm exactly BETWEEN the studs , not center to center

so, to add a 70-75 mm hole in the center one would need to presume the studs move further apart

I posted asking about the sensors a few months ago .. no one's said things wouldn't work , yet

I can see needing a SRT throttle cable and bracket as a strong possibility though ......

Re: Which TB to choose ?

IMO, you don't have to go nearly as big on TB on forced induction blow through style engines compared to N/A engines. Log manifold draw through is another story. I remember back in the day one of the faster FWD Mopars at the time was Rocky Johnson's GLH. He was the founder of Turbo Dodge. He was running a stock 46mm TB! Low 11's @ 126 MPH IIRC. Pretty sure we have some 10 second cars running 58mm throttle bodies. You could always locate an inexpensive 58 TB and upgrade if the need arises. IMO, you don't need a $400 TB.
BTW- You could probably find many used Mustang TB's at racersjunk.com or on Mustang forums, when people are upgrading.

You're adding a LOT of complexity into your build and by definition, the more parts you have, the less reliable they will be.

Re: Which TB to choose ?

$80 Ebay 76mm Ford TB. Mods to make work..... grind TPS side of throttle shaft down and re-cut shaft to be clocked in correct rotation for chrysler TPS. Mill TB body down to account for the amount taken off the shaft. Open holes up in TPS sensor because bolt spacing is just a wee bit bigger on the TB body. CNC'd billet throttle cable piece since the ford one turns opposite and I needed it to pull like a T2 setup pulls on it. It's going on my built 2.2 8v with a GT30R, TBI header, ported head, BMF intake. It makes a 58mm TB seem small.

I'm a fan of the Mopar 58mm I have on my TIII.

GLHNSLHT2, your T/B looks very nice but I can't do what you have done
What is the Mopar 58mm part number ?
I would like to find one enlarged to 58mm like this one :

Re: Which TB to choose ?

Harry what T/B do u use, IIRC you make 390 WHP (that is an insane number for a 8V)

Some promote the 58mm and other says go bigger, personally I would prefer the 58mm because it is cheaper but I'm first looking for a coherent assembly
Look at this thread where Frank is promoting a 70mm T/B with a (relative) small plenum :

    Ok, sent a PM
Go to eBay and looked for a 58mm one, they are many 3.8L T/B for sale but a few will be with a 58mm opening

For the Jeep 4.0L T/B what year to look ?
There is one bored for sale on eBay :

Re: Which TB to choose ?

I'm using a '97 Ford 5.4L throttle body on my 2.4 in my van. I got it out of the junk yard for like $34. The throttle blade is 2.75" but it necks down to 2.6" right before it. Since my intercooler plumbing is 2.5" I'm fine with that. I had to build a bracket for the throttle cables, weld on the part that the throttle cables attach to to move the throttle blade, and plumb in an external AIS attachment. Post 746 starts that conversation: http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/sh...n-build/page38

Or if you want a direct fit piece you can get a throttle body off of a 2006ish (I think) H.O. Dodge Caravan 3.8. I believe the throttle blade on that is like 2.3" or so. I had it on my 2.4 van before upgrading the intake.

Specially if you're wanting to drive this on the street. Can you make more power with a larger TB, Sure, but the % will be insubstantial compared to simple tuning...….
