    looking for tire options

I need a new set of summer tires for my DD.
I have 3 new Nexen N1000 at 205/40R16 but the fourth is bald. I cannot seem to find another N1000.
    Looking for safe Suggestions.
    Thanks
    Regards,
    Miles

How wide are the wheels? This is for the Sundance, correct?

    Re: looking for tire options

205/40/16 is awfully small diameter for a P-body. I would think 205/50/16 would be about right.

My N1000 are less than a year old, I bought them for my Prius C which is gone...Two of the N1000 have never been on the road, they are new

Good question....The 16 rims is the same as my current summer 15" rims as shown in my signature picture. They are 7.5" on the outside so I would guess 7" on the inside.
Yes this is for my Sundance. The 16" aftermarket rims I am looking at was from my 88 Daytona Shelby Z but has 225 tires on currently

I measured the circumference of the 205/40/16 and it is exactly the same as the 205/50/15 and 195/55/15 that I have here. IIRC the circumference was approx 72 inches

    Tire diameters:
    205/40/16 - 22.5"
    205/50/15 - 23.1"

I like my Dunlop direzza z2's. The new ones should be even better. These are 205/50r16 on 8" wheel. I'd stick to 50's.

Also the size I run on my Charger with 6" wide Daytona pumpers. I'm fairly sure Dave Tekampe also had that size on his Shadow.

Thanks for the link, I used a tape measure. perhaps I was comparing a new 205/40/16 vs used 195/55/15.

Why do you like the 50's???
Did you need to change to a different colour speedo gear? looks like the speed otherwise will be 5% off.

Hummm...you guys are making me think that a 205/50/16 may be better for me as I find my 568 gearing is a bit too low. Maybe a good solution.

    Re: looking for tire options

Shelby lancer come with 205/60r15's. Simply. 205/50r16 has the most choices for tires. That's why I run that size. Don't care about speedo discrepancy although mines dead on. I'll probably go with a 225 on my 8" wheels next.

P225/45r16 is an incredible size on a P body in my experience. I have these on a set of RPF1s and they're an awesome combination.

    Re: looking for tire options

Thank you to everyone that responded. Now that we are thinking of tires.
I want a tire that handles well in corners, does not hydroplane as a summer tire. My last ones Toyo Proxes(All seasons) did not handle well and like to water ski. For the record, I do love my Toyo Observes for winters.

    Re: looking for tire options

I've been fairly satisfied with the R1Rs, but you really have to narrow down your sizes before you can look at the tires. Otherwise it's an exercise in frustration, as the tires you like are never the ones available in the size you want.

    Re: looking for tire options

I look at the Miata guys when it comes to tire sizes and handling. They routinely run a 205 on 7-8 inch wheel and 225's on 8-9" wheel. I don't push my car in the rain but my dunlops seem ok.

    Re: looking for tire options

That tire is pretty much the same as the 205/60r15 I had on my 90 Shadow. They don't give me any trouble with the exception of rubbing the trans when at full lock. I think you would have to roll the fender lips in the rear with an 8" wide wheel on a Shadow, but I'm not positive as it would be really close. My next set of wheels for the CSX will be 8" wide for sure.

had them on my shelby-turbo converted turismo .. thirty years ago
good tires- looks like they still sell 'em
hooked on a 12# launch with only a couple of scuffs and griped so hard in one particular regular corner that it felt like the tire was going to rip the wheel off
(right turn , left front tire 25mph)

came off a black shadow 2 door with the 6 inch crabs .. and hay hanging from all four tire beads ..
