    GLH Turbo cars

Looks like no one has posted in Strip and Street stories in over a year so I thought I would put up a couple older videos I have linked to before in case anyone looked in here.

    Mustang down!

Camaro was faster but still lost.

Nothing cooler than a Black Omni with red interior!!

You should give a reminder on the mods you have on your car.

Some might not be familiar with your VVT and other goodies!

    Thanks
    Randy

    Re: GLH Turbo cars

Ordered the black omni when I was working as a mechanic for a Chrysler dealership in 1984. Drove it 5 years then traded it for a Caravan as I had a family of 4 by that time. Two or three years passed and the blue GLH was a deal I couldn't pass up so I hopped it up some and went drag racing with it. Later on I sold it to a boy who worked with me and got a 89 turbo Caravan. Took it racing a few times too. A few more years passed and I was able to track the same black car down and got it back. Another year passes and I bought the blue one back. Started modifying the black GLH right away. Few things I always wanted to try on a turbo car. One was variable cam timing. Built the system and refined it. Worked very well in my opinion. Cam can advance or retard 5 degrees form straight up. Advance it for better idle and bottom end and then retard it for top end. I used an air actuated solenoid to make it happen. I also switched over to a water to air intercooler. I used my ac system solely to cool the fluid in the system. Since so much more heat was generated from the condenser and then getting blow into the radiator and engine compartment I decided to relocate the ac condenser to the back of the car. That's why you see the fans under the rear bumper.

    Wow. Thanks for that video.
More info on your VVT please.
The solenoid acts on the belt?

And the AC cooled A/W exchanger, the IC coolant travels to the back of the car?
And then the AC evaporator is flooded with IC coolant?

Sorry for the slow responses, I'm working on another project over at

    http://www.turbo-mopar.com/forums/sh...lator-research

The ac refrigerant cools the water thats used in the water to air intercooler. The water stored in a tank in the cowl panel. The refrigerant is plumbed to the rear of the car. More in depth info here

The cam timing is controlled by moving the belt slack from the front to the back. 5 degrees each way from center is alot for a single cam engine. Here is my early demonstration.

    Re: GLH Turbo cars

My older brother bought my old black/tan Omni GLH Turbo and he just last week bought a '12 Challenger R/T. We want to get a good video of the Challenger R/T (bone stock) racing the Omni GLH Turbo and post it on YouTube. The Omni has been reverted back to stock, but has a really nice cylinder head from Todd Nelson, engine built by myself, and a full 3" exhaust from TU swing valve back. Plus a grainger valve boost controller set at 12 psi. It is a firecracker and hard to beat from a red light but we'll see soon!
