    Question Socketing the SBEC

I am going to be undertaking the task of socketing a SBEC board to add the Boostbutton flash-able ECU module. I searched for this information on Google and I believe that Rob had this information on the Turbonator Wiki, but that account has been suspended. I have added 4 pins to my SBECII to add the module, and this was easy, but it is my understanding that it is harder to socket the SBEC for the BB module. Does anyone have this information saved that I can get?

If you added a 4-pin socket to a board that already had a 28-pin socket and did it by drilling out the holes, you've already done what I consider is the hard part.

If you wanted tips for socketing- Easiest way I've done it is cut every leg of the chip off with some good cutters. I think some have used a dremel with a cutting disc. With the chip out of the way try to get more of the epoxy cleared away. Then heat a leg at a time and pull it out with tweezers. Use a solder sucker and clear out the pin holes when hot.

This will be a factory ecu that has not been socketed before, I found Una’s writeup about just socketing it, wasn’t sure what is different from the SBECII, those are already drilled, just had to suck the solder out and add a “4 pin mini socket”
