I started machining my sun gear to fit the torrington bearing. It's coming along pretty well. The only problem I'm having is figuring out how to get the mirror finish that I started with.
A problem I ran into is on the planetary gear set. I want to machine it so I can insert a bearing race. The problem I'm having is is the pivots for the individual planetary gears are hardened steel. The lathe can't cut them. I tried grinding them down with my whizzer wheel but I'm just making a mess of them.
I tried looking on-line for solutions to these problems but haven't found any yet.
I'm going to try posting pictures. If they're not viewable and someone has some ideas to make them visible, please PM me solutions, don't post them here and clutter up the thread.
