Started on the V6 Sbec. If for nothing else I need the practice.

Top Sbec is from a 2.5 turbo. The lower one is from a V6

4 injectors but only 3 drivers for the 4 cyl and only 2 drivers for the 6 cyl. Can anyone shed some light on this?

There appear to be more than one switching transistor or what ever under each heat sink. Maybe voltage regulator or ignition coil switches etc.

If that's the case, then you have batch fire using 2 drivers driving 2 injectors each for the 4 cylinders and 2 driver driving 3 injectors each for the 6 cylinders.

That's why I started this whole thread. Looking at the wiring diagram the 88 and 89 Smecs only have 2 injector drive wires. These 90 and 91 Sbecs have 4. Sbecs with a turbo have 3 heat sinks with what appears to be 6 switching transistors under them. Sbecs with a 3.0 v6 have 2 heat sinks with 4 transistors. Definitely something I don't understand going on there.

Well I plugged the socketed V6 sbec into my car and it started right up - on three cylinders. Snap on scanner auto identified as 90 2.5 turbo truck lol. I let it idle and it set code 27 - injector 4 fires improperly. At least my socketing skill seems to have passed the grade. Now on to socket the correct sbec.

I never owned a SBEC cars.

Which SBEC cars uses coil pack instead of the distributor?

The transistor used to drive ignition coil needs to have big heatsink in Megasquirt, while the transistor used with injectors driver does not.

I think the 16 valve cars have 4 coils. Fired in pairs so only two control wires.

if there are just extra v6 stuff thats not mapped to things that the 4 cyl cals need, then i would think that it would work.

i mean, at idle, it wouldnt hurt anything to try.

brian, just posted up a 92 2.5 t1 cal. haven't had a chance yet to compare it to the 92 v6 cal. maybe in my next life................

FWIW, I've seen SBECs with 4 heat sinks on them before.

Got the turbo sbec socketed. The idea of disabling a less important circuit and rerouting it to drive an injector sounds good but I'd say we had just better start buying up all the turbo sbecs we think we might need for future projects.
