TU 6 puck ceramic disk noise

I talked to Chris at TU today. He suggested I post here to get some opinions and perhaps piece of mind.

I have what seems to be an odd noise at certain times when slipping the clutch. The sound is best described as dragging a table on the floor. Once the clutch is fully engaged, there is never any sound. This mostly happens in reverse, and the odd time when downshifting. I have no issues with shifting, trans shifts like butter. Trans was just rebuilt by Ed Papp a few months back. Just looking for others opinions if they have experienced anything similar, and if I should be concerned about anything serious, from what Chris said it seems like a common occurrence with the ceramic disks.

    Thanks!

Yup, totally normal. If you get that sound downshifting, you aren't rev matching well enough. Practice more on that heel/toe.

Mine's been doing it for years. I had a SPEC Stage 3 when I first put the car together and that one did it too.

I have an engine/trans combination that is not easy to line up properly (only one dowel). I will say that I took extreme care in aligning the transmission in my most recent installation. The sound you describe happens far less now for me. It happens so infrequently now that it surprises me when it does happen. It could be entirely a coincidence, but that's my experience.

I've definitely noticed that rpm has a big effect on if/and how serve the noise is, if it's present at all. This clutch combo is new to me, as well as the power of the Holset, so it's been a learning curve.
